I misplaced my camera. First time ever, but I am wondering if it is sort of psychological as I have been thinking about a new camera before we go on our Alaskan cruise. (Although I am a family event photographer/vacation with people photographer more than a scenery type of gal.) I have (or had?) a Canon Cool Pix. It is about 10 years old. What I like about it is 1. no fiddling around with settings.(My dad was a "real" photographer & the waiting around for f-stops etc. could get quite annoying & sometimes the moment was gone.KWIM ) 2. it takes decent pictures. Not great, but decent. ( Back in the day of film cameras, I loved my panoramic camera- clearest/truest shots I ever took.) 3. It has a zoom feature that is pretty easy to use. 4. It is really portable. 5. It's easy to turn off the flash. 6. I like using a viewfinder. The only things I didn't like are 1. Everything seems to have a bit of of a yellow/orange glow lately. 2. We are all blue eyed & the red eye thing can be annoying, however I have discovered I have less of that when I don't use flash.3. I imagine the technology is even better now & I would get better pictures. What would you suggest? Thank you for your help.

The everything have a yellow glow from a ten year old camera sounds like a sensor going bad.
What do you WANT from your camera? dpreview.com has most cameras listed with reviews plus they have a great comparision tool that lets you pick up to 20 cameras to compare point by point.

I just received a Nikon Coolpix P530 for my birthday and so far I love it. All I'd had before were Kodaks, but wanted something else this time. It's easy to use, in spite of having quite a few different settings which I'm still getting used to, but I would recommend this camera. Here in Canada, it was in the $300 range.

It's a legendary model (at least for me ; I made my first pictures on this camera). I used it for about 2 years. And I do not remember any problems with this model.
