So I've been on it one month at 5mg. I honestly feel no differnet, other than more tired. And still have to take a sleep aid tho! Not sure what I "should" feel tho? And sadly the libido thing...well that sucks totally I do have a call in to my dr today...but wondering, if I'm already feeling more tired (and just getting over a 4 day headache, but I've had them before ) Is increasing the dose a smart idea? Thanks

not sure... I think when it was first prescribed to me, the psychiatrist started me at a higher dose (20 mg) and then moved it down to see if a lower dose would still give the same effects. I never got tired like that, though... perhaps the tiredness is still a symptom of your issues? (I can't remember if you're taking it for anxiety or depression)
The libido thing does suck, I agree.
There's a lot of different kinds of medications out there, though-- I'd ask the doctor about either upping the dose for a few weeks, or trying something different. maybe??

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on the Internet, but I have been on and off the antidepressant merry-go-round for many years. I would suggest trying a different med. I have tried some that had no effect, and some that really helped, sometimes it's just a process to find out which does what with your brain.
You've had a physical, yes? to rule out things like Vitamin D deficiency and other things that could be contributing to your tiredness?
Hang in there, this could be a process of trial and error. And that's okay. And the libido thing...yes, that is an ongoing problem. But if you can take care of your tiredness, that could help a little. Keep holding hands and snuggling in bed, stay in physical touch with your partner. You may not feel like you need that physical comfort, but you do!

Thanks. It's for both, mood and some anxiety. I've had a complete exam and blood work, all that was good.

If you end up staying on it, take it at night a little while before bed. I had to do this because it made me a walking zombie if I took it during the day.
Also, 5 mg is a pretty low dose. I don't know how long you've been on it, but you should expect 6-8 weeks for the full effect to kick in. And yes, the libido thing sucks. However, given the choice between me flying around on a broomstick with crazed moods or the libido, hubs and I agreed the meds are better for me.

I'm on 10 mg. It is helpful to me. As others have said, I was told not to expect it to take effect for several weeks. Call your doctor and let him know you're not feeling any different on the 5 mg. He may want increase your dosage or switch to something else.
Before we tried Lexapro I wanted to try a higher dose of Xanax "as needed" because I didn't want to be on a daily med. He agreed to let me try. But I could tell with my first dose, it made me more tired but did not relieve my symptoms. So I called and he gave me a script for the 10 mg Lexapro. For my needs I also have a low dose xanax as needed. I used it the first week or so but haven't really needed it since then, other than helping me go back to sleep if I need it. I don't like to do that too often though.
ETA I also take the Lexapro at bedtime. Sorry can't help with the libido issue.

I do take it before bed. And it's been 4 weeks.
