So, I finally cracked open the Singer 1234 sewing machine that I bought on Black Friday. Thank goodness for You Tube tutorials. It has been many years since Home Ec class in 9th grade. I am all set, I hope, except for the needle information. What do you use to sew on paper with cotton thread? Is there a different needle size for metallic thread? I bought several different needle sizes just in case. Your help would be very appreciated!

ha. I use whatever needle I can find. And I never change it out when I switch threads either. I just try not use a needle that will make super huge holes. But I am not picky, either, so there is that.

I have been researching sewing machines and I think I've made up my mind, just haven't clicked "buy" yet and I read that a size 10 is for light fabric and a 12 is for stuff like cotton and the higher the number the thicker the fabric, so I would think that paper would work with a 10 or 12... I haven't tried it yet since my machine is still in cyberspace...

for my sewing machine, a standard needle has always been fine.
