I've decided to give it a try, in hopes it'll last longer than my previous planner attempts (the bar is pretty low to beat those ) I have a Moleskine notebook (dotted) arriving from Amazon today. Any tips/sites you use or wished you'd used, especially during the setup period? I'm trying (and failing, apparently) not to overcomplicate things this time. But I want to make sure I create a usable key, leave enough pages for an index, things like that.

I have used a bullet journal for a few years now - I think this is my third year. I've just followed the original bullet journal website. I don't want to complicate it with stuff like the weather, quotes, stickers, etc. Mine is purely functional.

I do, and have for more than a year. It is hard to find much on bullet journaling, but I use a key similar to this one with some modifications. I keep a copy of the key glued to the inside front cover of my moleskin. Bullet Journal KeyNot sure what you mean by leaving enough pages for an index. Your first page is an index and when you get to the bottom of that page, you make a new index page (with your last entry on your previous index a reference to the new index page #).

Ahhhh, see that makes so much more sense, I'm so used to all of the index being in the front I never considered just adding another index page where ever it landed. I'll check out that site, thanks!

There is a ton of information on Pinterst about bullet journalling.
I have been thinking of starting and read a lot about it on there.

I know, it's a rabbit hole of monster proportions Then I went to Instagram, thankfully I'm less familiar with IG otherwise my family would probably never again have dinner or clean underwear

I've always been a list maker, so bullet journaling really made sense to me and my system has evolved over the last couple of years. I also just used the original site when I got started and didn't worry about having it perfect from the beginning.
I have definitely adapted my system and keep three journals going now: one for everyday/personal stuff, one for books (just a personal decision to separate this out) and one for my volunteer work (confidentiality is a critical).
I love the large Moleskine Cahier journals and have used them from the beginning.

Can someone give me the condensed explanation of what bullet journaling is? I have tried to research it but don't quite grasp the concept. Is it basically making a list and using different symbols to indicate different tasks/categories? Thanks!

I just started on February 29. It's going okay. I started for basically the same reasons as you. I've lost my organizational way in the last five years or so and I kept failing at previous attempts to stay organized. Electronic aps, paper planners, lists, post it notes, typed documents - they all ended up outdated and a jumbled mess. I didn't do much except the original website guide to get started and I committed to the recommendation to try it for two months. I missed a few days already because I had surgery last Friday and just didn't bother for the weekend, but I started back up again yesterday and will try to carry through to the end of April to see if it helps me. Still trying to get a good system that works for me down, but it's only been a few days so far.

I started at the beginning of the year. I am really enjoying it and I it has been really helpful! I am using a Leuchtturm1917 - dotted. It has three index pages printed at the beginning and I think that will be plenty for me though this book. I started by following the website's set up fairly closely, but each month I have added and taken away things and now I am thinking I am getting to a set up that is working well for me. I have a monthly calendar on the first two pages of the month. Then I just go right into my weekly set up. The set up I am currently using for that has space across the top half of two pages for a daily section where list know appointments and then my to do's for the day. The bottom part of the page has my larger to do list that I want to keep in mind but are not necessarily doing on a specific day. If something from that list gets done, great I check it off on that list. I also have a separate section for scrapbooking and crafting projects I am working on. Another section for more long term items such as a trip we are taking in June and my son's graduation in May. Then there is an open section for anything I may need to jot down or I have even thought about printing a few pictures from that week and putting them in there. Other trackers that I have put in my book on separate pages that are noted in the index have to do with reading - books I am reading and challenges I am doing, etc. I also take notes in there and put it in the index so I can refer back.
For me I decided to make it really usable so that it takes the place of all the little slips of paper and other stuff. Now everything is in one place. At the end of the month I do a little month summary. My 17 year old son saw me working on it at the end of Feb and told me, wow, mom you put a lot of really neat stuff in that book of yours! That will be cool to look back at. And I thought, wow! It even got the attention of my slightly disorganized and aloof teenager! That is some good stuff!

I do. I have fallen off the wagon a few times with it (like I always do with whatever planner system I'm trying out at the time) but it's the only one I come back to time and again. It just works for me. I can't stand using my phone for that stuff, I need to be able to write and have various notes on things. I keep it in my purse. No stickers or other stuff like that, but I do have a set of colored pens just for my bullet journal (and a highlighter). I pretty much use it as the video shows to use it - it's simple and easy to integrate pretty much everything in my life into it. I use a Moleskin with the grid - I'm not sure why I like it better than just the lined one, but there ya have it.

I've been using bullet Journaling since October and I really like it. I've modified it to make it my own, but that's the beauty of the system to me. It's so versatile.
I use the large Moleskine with the grid. I played around with stickers but recently decided to stop because they were building up and making it difficult to write. I've also gotten sucked into hand lettering, which is a rabbit hole all of it's own!

I use it for work and the indexing of important topics has saved my behind more than I can say. Have you guys discovered Boho Berry yet? My system is very plain and solely tasks but hers is pure eye candy.

I started doing it at the start of the year. I got an ARC planner from Staples and its working well for me so far. I have 3 different sections---preprinted monthly cakendar; lined paper for lists; and grid paper. I like that I can move pages around as I change my mind.

I have used a very simplified bullet journaling concept for many years -- simple as in I only use 3-4 symbols. I incorporate it into my Moleskin planner. I use the one that has a week on the left hand page and a blank page on the right. That blank page becomes my brain. Everything goes into my Moleskin. I have years worth of them tucked away in my desk. I could look up a week from years ago and not only tell you what appointments I had, but also what was on my to-do list that week. Hi, my name is Angie and I'm an anal organizer.

All this coding seems so complicated to me. I like the idea but when I tried it, it just did not work for me.

I don't really use the code. I use a box to check off that I have completed an item. If it's a very important item that I didn't get to, I put an arrow across the box, that's my only code. I also use it as a journal so I use bullet points to identify those entries. That's it. Thanks to Boho Berry (I found her a couple of weeks ago) I am using a monthly tracking page, I've added some quotes, I'm tracking my food on a weekly basis. It can get to be it's own addiction!! It's fun.

I just started a bullet journal today. I usually give up on planners and such but this makes sense. Plus I can add my random doodling into it. My dd turned me onto Boho Berry and I love her And I <3 <3 <3 the eye candy!

I started using one in January. I am a big list maker and I used to have sticky notes everywhere. The bullet journal takes the place of all of these sticky notes. It is working really well for me.
I really like Boho Berry and Tiny Ray of Sunshine. I have taken ideas from both of them and tweaked them to work for me.

I started mine last week. I was so organized when I was working full time, and I need to add some structure back in to my life. I am hoping this will help keep my ADD in check.
I found Boho Berry on Instagram and found her to be very inspiring. I even started a separate Instagram account for all the bullet journaling stuff.

I've been doing it for a couple of years now. I keep it quite basic. For planning ahead, I set up several pages in quarters. Upper left quadrant is Jan 2016. Then I just write in the day and the event I need in the future. Upper right is Jan 2017, as I usually go about a year and a half per book. Lower left is Feb 2016. Lower right is Feb 2017. Etc. I tried several other ways to keep track of future items and this worked best for me. Until Feb of this year, I set my monthly up like the video. However, I now do a two-page spread in a calendar style. Works better for me.
