Not anymore. Aggravates my jaw joint, gives me a headache. It's too bad, because I'd like to be able to chew it as an alternative to constantly putting food in my mouth, but the joint pain plus resulting headache really incapacitate me.

Not since my jaw joints were replaced. Kind of forbidden. What does this mean? I am intrigued!!! Is there joint replacement surgery for jaw joints I need to know about? I don't chew gum. I haven't in years (at least 8 or 10 years I would say). I used to enjoy chewing gum but the jaw headaches were so bad that it was something easy to give up. I don't miss it because it makes the headaches worse. I dislocate my jaw once chewing gum and that was a nightmare. I had to go to urgent care and get the doctor to re-set my jaw in place. That hurts. He could see that it was dislocated as it was off to one side. Ouch! I wouldn't wish that surgery on anyone since recovery is horrendous. I have a lot of pain and side effects I didn't expect, and since I had it done so young (27), my jaw bone is now wearing down from rubbing against metal for almost 18 years. So now my mouth is starting to not "fit together" anymore. They won't do the surgery unless there's pretty much no other option. I hope you don't wind up needing the surgery.

I did YEARS ago when I was a teenager. Never anymore- it doesn't even cross my mind to do it.

I'd bet that someone gave them gum to freshen their breath for the ceremony.

I have bad arthritis in both sides now. The left is worse. I have done lidocaine injections, Botox, acupuncture, wet heat, dry heat, ice, ice/heat combination, Tiger Balm, Deep Blue from doTerra, I have any number of mouth guards that don't fit, make it worse, hurt, give me headaches elsewhere. My dentist has remade all front teeth (12) and wants to fix a couple of back ones as well to see if it will prevent me from grinding. Nothing has worked so far. This is not a cheap venture by any means. If it prevents me from losing tooth length I am willing to try anything. We are $2000 over the initial quote because my bite is worse than she had anticipated. I had 6 teeth done today and OMG it hurt. Once she took the dental dam off and the clips to separate the teeth it went better for sure, but it hurt. There is no reason to freeze the teeth either as this isn't like a crown. If it prevents tooth loss I think it will be worth it, though. I saw an oral surgeon in 93 and he said there was nothing that could be done about it then. I haven't seen one since. I saw 2 prosthedontists (they make prosthetic devices for mouths). They were going to charge me $5000 for an appliance they weren't sure would work. It seemed like a lot of money for a guess. This is why I never chew gum!

Up till a year ago I haven't chewed gum since I was in highschool. Winterfresh was my pick. And it would actually melt in your mouth ( not in a good way )
I haven't been interested in the sweeteners and stuff in gum. And then I found that original Chicklets don't have it. So from time to time I chew those when I get a sugar craving or feel sinus pressure.

[quote source="/post/1030955/thread" Yes, sadly many random but repetitive noises drive me crazy Humming, whistling, forks on teeth, etc I cherish the two days a week I get to work from home! Arg I can't stand repetitive noises either. But if it's a variety of pattern or tune then it's okay so whistling I can handle unless they are whistling the same note over and over again. Although when my mom eats out of her cereal bowl and keeps mixing it with her spoon and hitting the bowl every time she scoops and makes that scraping sound with the spoon against the bowl that gets to me.

This is why I never chew gum! I'm sorry. I completely understand your misery. I have to have some dental work done this year to try to preserve two back teeth as long as possible because I really don't want to find out what would happen with my mouth if I lost teeth. I'm sure it would not be pleasant. I'm already feeling anxiety at the pain this work is going to cause, though. I hope they can find relief for you. If you ever want to discuss it, PM me.

I love chewing gum, but feel like it makes me have more canker sores. So I've been using tictacs to freshen my breath.
It irks me to see open mouth gum chewers.

I'm a gum chewer. I love chewing gum and I love blowing bubbles. I would not, however, chew during a wedding. I have to say though...I don't really "get" why the simple act of chewing gum (silently, not popping or blowing bubbles) is so off-putting. I don't care if you're (general you) sucking on a mint so why should you care what is happening in my mouth? As long as a person is not being disruptive. For me it's one of those things similar to jiggling your knee or twiddling something in your fingers. If the person isn't shaking the table, why does somebody care if they are moving their body? I am one that HATES gum chewing. I have a condition called misophonia - which basically means "hatred of sound." Its not all sound - just certain triggers that differ from person to person. For me, gum chewing (even the look of the jaw moving up and down sets me off), loud eating, nose sniffling, and repetitive noises such as tapping or jingling. But gum is the worst. Its more than just an annoyance - it can set me into a rage. Here's a video that appeared on ABC News: abcnews.go.com/2020/video/ripa-kelly-misophonia-medical-mystery-disorder-mental-health-2020-16383771

I chew gum a lot. To keep from eating. LOL It's keeps my mouth busy and makes me resist the urge to eat. It's especially helpful during dinner time prep. But I'd NEVER chew gum during a wedding or any type of meeting.

TMJ sufferer, so no I don't chew it. Every once in a blue moon I will get some watermelon bubble gum, chew it for 5 minutes and then realize why I don't chew gum.

I can't stand watching ppl chew gum like a cow chewing its cud.

In general, no. It gives me a headache. But, occasionally I get a craving and will chew for a short period. Over the weekend I chewed a piece to stick on the Pike Place gum wall. It was cleaned off in November and I had to do my part to help re-establish it. :-) Awesome! Love the gum wall.

I have jaw issues as well so I don't chew gum.
Once I had to speak in church, so I was sitting up behind the pulpit. As I looked out to the congregation, my eyes would go immediately to the people chewing gum. They looked ridiculous sitting there chewing. That's when I remembered that my dad always hated for us to chew gum b/c he hated how it looks.
I don't mind if people chew gum but I don't really like to watch anyone chewing it.

I rarely, if ever, chew gum. I can't even remember the last time I did. I am often annoyed by gum chewing in others, mainly because it seems most people cannot do it without making noises. Maybe there are people who do it so subtly and quietly that I just don't notice. My ex-husband is an open mouth gum chewer. It was a pet peeve of mine. I tried to get him to understand how bad it made him look even to video taping him so he could see it for himself. Oh well. He still does it, but it's sure not my problem anymore. DH was an open mouth gum chewer and drove me crazy. Finally I just matched him one day, chewing away with my open mouth and that was what it took to get him to stop. I rarely chew gum but always keep some in my purse and car. If I have been drinking coffee in the car on the way to a meeting, I'll chew a piece for a couple of minutes to get rid of the coffee breath.

Yes - I'm a gum lover. My habit started when I quit smoking 9 years ago. I do not chew gum while in meetings nor would I chew it at a wedding or in church. Heck, I get rid of my gum if I get up from my desk to use the bathroom.

Because of this thread I just chewed a piece of Bubble Yum cotton candy gum.
My mom has misophonia, and she was always yelling at us about how we ate, noises we made, etc.
I do have TMJ and don't do long gum chewing. Sometimes stretching my jaw muscles feels good as long as I don't do it too much.
I keep cinnamon altoids in my purse. I don't react well to aspartame so I prefer Big Red. It's not easy to find. The lemon Ice Cubes sounds delicious. I get dry mouth a lot.
I don't mind people chewing gum as long as their mouths are closed, and they're not doing that cracking sound. As long as they're not chewing in a more formal place--the theatre, a church service, a wedding, etc.

I tend to chew nicotine gum when I am quitting smoking. I have found that I am one of those annoying gum chewers who likes to blow bubbles, though. I don't even realize I'm doing it either.

i like chewing gum. I pop one in before seeing a client or when I need a quick sugar boost. I don't see anything wrong with chewing during a ceremony just as long as you are not loud, popping your gum, or obviously chewing. I can have gum in my mouth and you'd never know it.

I love gum and I am an obnoxious gum chewer to boot. Snap, blow bubbles, chew with my mouth open; the whole 9 yards. I can't say I'd never chew it at a wedding but probably not at a family members wedding. I chew it in church all the time but refrain from popping or snapping. You'd all hate me. When my BFF has had enough she just holds her hand out and I know what to do.
