I have approximately 150 bottles, and I know there are some peas with more than that! Right now I use trays similar to cutlery trays, but they are both full and overflowing. I have seen nice acrylic wall shelving units, but not ones that fit a lot. If it only fits 40, I would need at least four, and that is too much for my bedroom wall!
How do others here store their large collections of polish?

It sounds like you need something like this - Nail Polish Rack This one holds 102 bottles but maybe you can de-stash some bottles or buy 2 of these.
You may find them cheaper on e-Bay - here is one that holds 128 bottles - Nail Polish Rack on e-Bay

I have a Helmer from Ikea.
It is perfect for large nail polish collections. Each drawer hold 40-50 bottles of polish.

Here is how I have them. It was annoying that they changed the color of white in between my buying #2 & #3, but I don't much notice it anymore. I got the bird decals at Ikea too.

That looks really nice! Do you think you could post a picture of one of the drawers open, so I can see how they fit in there? Also, the decals: it looks like they cover more than one drawer, so how do you open the drawer? And thank you for having 1000 polishes, I don't feel guilty buying new bottles now lol. I was starting to feel like maybe I am a hoarder, and why do I need to buy new ones when I should use up the ones I have.

I built a rack for mine. I love that! Is this in your bathroom? I see you have a lot of Zoya. What base and top coat do you use with Zoya?

I have two of these racks mounted on my closet wall. DH surprised me with the first one for Christmas a couple years ago. Nail Polish Rack They hold about 100 bottles each and I'm outgrowing them.

Here's an open drawer panda Once I got the stickers in place where I wanted them on the drawers, I sliced with an exacto knife along the drawer seams do they'd open easily. Hope that helps! I love gennifer's display but I don't have a good place to put that and with thus many polishes, I prefer them tucked away. I organize by brand/collection/color so I know where everything is. I also have swatch wheels of every polish, organized by color, so I can cross reference. And I have a spreadsheet. Lol

I also lined the drawers with non-slip drawer liners so they don't fall over when I open the drawer, some drawers have more room than this one.

I just have 1 question. With so many bottles, does it not go bad before you use it? I have maybe 10 bottles and still have to throw some out.

No. I found some in the back of a closet when I was moving that had been in there for over ten years, and some of them were five or more years old then. None of them were even gloopy, though I've had a few get that way after a couple years. Just buy nail polish thinner (don't use remover, it has to be actual polish thinner). Though to be honest, with this many, it really doesn't matter if I lose a few bottles. What can I say, they're a cheap thrill! I really don't care if I wear them more than once or not. And my buying has slowed considerably in the past year.

I have a giant men's toolbox that holds most of them...and lives under the bed. Then I have a smaller box that holds my most commonly used ones, such as base coat and top coat which is in a cupboard in the lounge then I have a drawer in my wall unit that has all of my nail art supplies. Each individual section is well organised and it's functional but not ideal. All in one place would be better.
When I looked into this in the past, one idea I liked was using the Ikea picture ledges (I think it's called Mosslanda) attached to the wall, apparently those work well and are cheap:

And great tip about using shelf liner. And you sound very organized with your swatch wheels and spreadsheet lol! I do have a nail polish inventory app I use, partly because I worry about buying a duplicate. And it allows for photos so I can see if I already have something similar.

Nail polish does not "go bad". It may thicken up, but that is what nail polish thinner is for. Do not use remover, it is not the same.
I've been collecting for about 5 years. I have about 300 bottles. Yes, I have slowed down a lot in the past year or so. There are only so many colors. But I am always looking for unique shades. I'm a sucker for holos and duochromes.

I bought a door rack from Container Store (it's in the kitchen area - the kind you would put inside your pantry door for spices). Mine goes from almost to the top to almost to the bottom. It holds about 200 bottles plus a basket of Jamberry, a basket of mini bottles, and a basket of nail tools.
I think I paid $27.99.

Our closets are bifold doors, so I couldn't even hang it on the back of the door. what if you hang them on the back of your closet? behind the clothes. you'd have to part the clothes to see them, but you also don't have to have 150 bottles staring you in the face whenever you go in the room. since they are low profile rack, you should never notice them interfering with the clothes hangers as long as you don't hang them directly across from the widest part.

That's a great idea! We have a small walk in closet and I have the larger side, my husband the smaller side. But he has most of the basement for his train collection, his own study in what was our living room, and most of the garage. Anyways, I keep a short dresser on my side of the closet, so I could hang it above the dresser! I hate clutter, so I like the open space a dresser (meaning no clothes hung above the dresser). I would have easy access to the nail organizer. Thanks so much!

I can pull them up by brand, color, special type (glitter, holo, etc) or name. It's great for keeping track, and I don't duplicate purchases anymore!

I love that! Is this in your bathroom? I see you have a lot of Zoya. What base and top coat do you use with Zoya? I don't use a base coat. My favorite top coat is a quick dry called Glisten & Glow (by HK Girl, an indie brand), but I will use Seche Vite in a pinch.

Thanks, I'd like one with the nail polish already in, it, just did a search in the google play store and found one called Nail Polish Rack. Might give that a try it says it has 40,000 polishes in the database!
ETA: Just installed Nail Polish Rack (android) and it's just what I want, you can even scan in barcodes! There's 74,000 polishes already in the data base, now I just have to go through and add all of mine.

It's just ok (they haven't released any updates in almost a year). You just make a record for each of your polishes, including name, brand, shade, collection. And you take a photo and can write notes. The Nail Polish Rack app sounds awesome but I didn't find that in the iTunes App Store.
