I did 3.28 this morning and I have to say I feel like a rockstar for the last 10 mins if it. The first bit I'm still waking up, but by the time I'm in the home stretch I could go on forever! Isn't that the best feeling? I'm starting to get that at the end of my 3 miles too. Almost time to bump up to 4.

Did a 5 minute warm up walk, a 1 mile run at 12:51 pace (pushed really hard with this one) and then did C25K week 1 day 2, 1.83 miles in 32 minutes. Took this one rather slow though. 50 minutes over all of running and walking. Not bad after a 4 month hiatus.
I was happy with the 1 mile run because I was able to run for 3 minutes straight, walk 1, run 3. I have not been able to maintain that for any length of time.
I am going to continue with the C25K until my 1/2 training starts. I'd really like to run more than 1-2 minutes at a time and not feel like I'm dying.

I had a couple weeks off while on holiday in the UK and I'm having a hard time getting back to it. I had been running about 45 min but the most I've done since I got home is 32 min yesterday. Feel like I'm in a bit of a funk and every ounce I put on while on holiday is a lead weight weighing my legs down!

I've downloaded 5 mixes and listened to 4 of them i think. so far so good!

The rain is seriously messing up my running day. I couldn't go this morning. "I" could run in the rain, but I'm not going to make my 6 yr old sit in the rain and watch. So, guess I'll be a day off this week and go tomorrow. I really need a treadmill! lol I'm hoping my Dad will let me borrow his for the winter, so I can train for the PHM. It's supposed to rain here too. I don't want to run in the rain. We do have a treadmill but i'm not excited about running on it. i probably will though!

While definitely easier physically than running outside, the treadmill is so freaking boring and psychologically painful! I actually prefer to run outside in rain and snow, than on the treadmill. I even installed ice spikes on one pair of my running shoes for running on the snow -- they got plenty of use this past winter. It takes a lot to get me to run indoors - it certainly is okay to shift your running schedule around.

Going to jump in here -
My goal for this week is thirty miles of walking and I am already at 23! Thursday I usually go for a long walk with a friend and we were doing well in bumping up our mileage when I go really sick over the 4th. Last week we did 8 and we thought we would repeat that this week but we decided to go for ten and managed to make our last two miles two of the fastest.
DH and I are planning our annual hiking trip and I thought I would be set back by having to take two+ weeks off but it looks like I might make it.

I tried out a new Camelbak I got dirt cheap from Active Gear up. I love how small it is, yet holds enough water. The only problem is the one pocket isn't big enough for my iPhone, so I'm looking to rig up something to help me with that. I tried putting an additional gear pocket on one of the shoulder straps, but it would cause chafing during a long run. But, it was really nice to be able to drink hassle-free without getting a bottle out of my belt and putting it back.

I'm training for the Auckland marathon in Nov. It's winter here so hard to get up on those dark mornings. Thankfully hasn't been that cold though. Great to see everyone's goals.

I'm sorry I haven't responded for the past few days. If there have been a lot of posts, I like to try to respond all at once and it's way easier for me to do that sitting at the computer rather than on my phone. Just didn't find time to sit down for much of this week. lesleyanne - I am terrible about stretching, too. I have found a routine that I like to do and I've gotten pretty good about forcing myself to do it after every run, but if I'm running short on time it's the first thing to go. I don't know why - stretching feels good & it's a huge help for me. elaine - I know what you mean about getting out of shape quickly. But at least it seems to come back really quickly, too. I hope your wrist continues to feel better! redshoes - Welcome! The first few weeks back into a physical routine are definitely tough. Hope you've worked some of the soreness out. smartypants71 - It's been years since I've had access to a treadmill to run on, but I definitely wouldn't have been able to do it without music. I got nauseous reading and looking up at the tv's at the gym, so music was my boredom buster. Maybe podcasts? Also - if you're running at home on a treadmill (not at the gym because this would be an annoying suggestion!) maybe you could call someone that doesn't mind talking while you're running? I'm sure that sounds funny, but sometimes I run with a friend and I can't believe how much quicker the time seems to go when we running & chatting. MaryPea - congrats on your miles this week! I'm glad you've found some new tunes to help keep you going! mamanay - I can't help you with the "everything hurts" part of strength training, but maybe you can start by doing some stuff in the privacy of your own home? Planks, bicycle crunches, russian twists and stuff like that don't take any equipment & really do a great job working out your core. Kymberlee - I'd go ahead and run the race. It might give you a good confidence boost going into the race and if you're starting to feel like it wasn't a good idea while you're racing you can always back off, walk a little & take it easier. You'll still get the experience & medal at the end! Sounds like fun. Tearisci - awesome job on those long weekend walks! What half are you training for? lilbug13 - nice total mileage for July! I know you said it's a little low, but it's a lot for me! octoberbeauty - I hope you were able to get a break from the rain so you could head out! MissBianca - Sounds like you are making great progress with your training! I still sometimes feel like I'm dying after running for a few minutes - that's another reason why I like my 30 second walk breaks after 2 1/2 minutes of running! emelle64 - It's hard to get back into a routine, so just getting out there again is all you need to do. The rest will follow. katydid - Congrats on your distance PR! That's awesome that you were feeling so strong, too. pb - Sounds like you will hit your mileage goal for the week with no problem! anniefb - Good luck with your training! I'm sure some of us are a bit envious that you're in the middle of winter right now.

I am annoyed with myself. I KNOW that I need I need to do strength training - especially for my hips - a few times a week. If I don't, I definitely start to feel it. I KNOW THIS. And yet, sometimes I think I'm strong enough now or something that I can skip it, or I can compensate by doing something else. So, I haven't done my exercises for about two weeks and sure enough, my hip is starting to grump at me. It's early enough that I can "fix" it by stretching, foam rolling, easing off the miles a little bit and diligently getting back to my routine. But, dang, why do I have to keep learning this lesson?! Just do the exercises!! The good news is that I got a very nice 4 miles in on Thursday and a great 7 in this morning with my friend. This is only the second time I've run with her & she really pushes me to be just a little faster than my normal pace. It's a great feeling to know that I can do it & I try to remember it when I'm out by myself. Hope yall have a great weekend!

I started running in April, and I've been adding roughly a minute a day of running. Now I'm doing 35 minutes of running out of my 45 minute workout 3-4x per week. It's so hard!!!! I try not to let my heart rate get too high -- once I feel like it hits 155ish, I take a minute or two to walk. I'm amazed at how fast my body has adapted -- my heart rate used to jump up to the 160s after a minute of running. Now I can run 8-10 minutes in the 140s.
I go slow (I set the treadmill to 4.5 mph) and that's good for me. I don't want to tear up my knees by overdoing anything. I'm 51 years old, and I'm trying to build up my endurance and strength slowly and steadily. I've been going a little over 3 miles in my 45 minutes, which seems reasonable for now.

Another 51 year old here! You are doing awesome - it feels so good when you can actually track your heart getting stronger, doesn't it? In terms of going slow, one of my favorite running sayings is "A 12 minute mile is just as far as a 6 minute mile." elaine look out for a SPI belt if you don't already have one. I have a few running belts that work with my iPhone - my Nathan 5K and my Nathan Trail Mix are my favs - I was just hoping to wear just one thing and the Camelbak makes drinking easier. I may try using 2" wide heavy duty Velcro to attach a pouch to the back of it.

It is great that you have someone to push you just enough to leave you feeling stronger, rather than discouraged. Since I already did a little over 12 miles this week and I'm building back up, I decided to leave my running shoes at home while we are at the beach this weekend. My family appreciates me spending the time with them, although I am itching to run on the nice flat concrete boardwalk here at VA Beach. There are lots of people out running.

I used to use Map My Fitness, but when I got my Garmin 220 in December, I switched to Garmin Connect. I love that my watch tracks distance, lap/split times, elevation and cadence and syncs it wirelessly to my phone and iPad. Garmin Connect makes it easy or pull up any/all of my runs and have all that info readily available.

I really like the ability to easily set up intervals & save different ones. I also use a free app called RoadID. You select up to 5 people when you start a run and they get a text message to a link to track you during your exercise. It's good peace of mind for my husband (he gets an alert if I've stopped moving for 5 minutes) and worked awesome at my last race for people to know exactly where I was while they were waiting to see me on the course.

Slinking in. Never been an exerciser, EVER, for more than maybe two weeks. But since I hit 40 I've put on 20 pounds. I started walking a couple of weeks ago, and earlier this week ran for three short 30 seconds bursts. So, I figured I' try a Couch to 5K thing. Just completed my first one today and feel pretty good! Reading all your posts has been pretty motivating. :-)

Yesterday at the gym I went up a degree on the treadmill I am up to 8% incline at 3.4 mph which is an improvement for me. I am also doing yoga for strengthening muscles. I hope to be up to 12% at 3.5 mph for 30 min. That is as long as I need to work out and achieve weight loss and getting into the zone. I am getting there. Just have to keep doing it!

Edited. I want to be at 3.5 mph not 2.5. Doh!

The bug thing is too funny (probably not for you, but still!!!) I was hesitating on signing up for a 10K for Nov. 1, but got word that there are port-a-potties at the halfway point (you just never know), so I'm going to register for that!! It's the James Island Connector run in Charleston - I'm very excited so I did 4 miles this afternoon. (Run/Walk - still only at about a 12.5 minute mile)

I ran 5 miles this morning before going to the hairdresser, was forced to get up early and do it as I can't do it any other time this weekend with the hair done so that was my motivation. lol

Today I had the best workout in about 3 years. I did the treadmill at 12% incline and 3.5 mph. That is close to a personal best. Maybe it even is one. I am tired and sweat was pouring down my back but I DID IT!
Back at it tomorrow!
