As some of you know I started a new job that added about 10 hours to my week four weeks ago. I have added an extra hour to my sleep at night (currently about 7 hours) but it hasn't helped. I really think I need to get serious about eating healthier.
When I eat carbs I get really, really sluggish. When I eat anything sweet (cookies, Brookside snacks (choc covered berries) or even a bit too much sugar in my tea) I get really lightheaded.
I'm thinking of trying to stick to mainly protein, fruits and vegs with minimal carbs and seeing if that gives me more energy.
Opinions? Tips? Help?!!!

You should probably see your doctor. You may have something else going on.

My DH is currently being treated for a Vitamin D deficiency. He slowly got more and more tired and he just couldn't catch up on his sleep, even though he hadn't missed any. He is also being evaluated for anemia, a process that is a bit different for him since his family carried the trait for Thalocemia.
By the time I got DH to the dr, he was so tired he could no longer think clearly. Please don't let your exhaustion get that far.

I would agree about seeing your doctor...I found out I was severely anemic...not to mention I was really pale (and I am the whitest white grl ever, so for my doctor to notice I was paler then usual)...all of this led to an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Not to freak you out, but yeah, I would see your doctor just to rule out other things.

See your doctor. what you are describing is a diabetic with very high numbers. A normal healthy person should be able to metabolize a little extra sugar in their tea or a small sweet snack.

I was at the dr just over a month ago after getting sick with a nasal infection and at that point they did some blood work so I'm sure they would have noticed if I was close to being diabetic. I do have a full check up scheduled in a couple weeks. Thanks and I will keep you updated. I have always gotten light headed after certain foods....for example chocolate milk. I think I'll just try and eat a lot healthier and add some extra protein and see how it goes until I see my dr again.
