Today I went to get a price for the car we are selling. We have already bought another car and figured we would get a better price and have less negotiation by selling our car separately.
According to Edmunds the average for our condition, mileage, etc for the "cheapest" level--"trade in"--is 8100 and per Kelly Blue book it was 9100 so I was thinking around 8500-ish. Our car is in really good condition (of course everyone says that!). They actually gave us a "credit" for the number of miles on it.
They offered us $7500 and I was bummed out.
Oh and Carmax has the same car online (different city--not a high end city) with 10,000 fewer miles on it for 17,000. Ten thousand miles does not depreciate a car by $10,000. Of course they have to make a profit but not "that" much.
I'll check around some other places.
One probably major problem is that it is a GM car that is on the recall list.
I called a couple of the dealers in our area and they don't have the parts and don't know when they will get them so the repairs cannot be made.
So I called GM customer service and they said they have no idea when the parts will be in to fix the cars but estimated it would be "a couple months."
So here I am with a car that no one wants that is considered unsafe and they are once-again dragging their feet. So I am sure that is impacting the price we were offered.
Were you satisfied with Car Max's price? Have you sold/traded a GM car recently? Did they give you a lower price because of the recall?
Thanks!
