I fell asleep for about an hour or so and woke up because I thought people were coming to kill me with big guns. Needless to say I am not going back to sleep at this point. I am tired (very tired) but too scared to sleep! ETA I also realize this post makes me seem like an idiot but it is helping me stop shaking!

Only right before the start of a new school year. I've had two nightmares in the past couple nights. Must be the anticipation because once I get back to work, no more bad dreams.

That sucks - I'm sorry.
I was getting them fairly regularly - like every 2nd or 3rd night. And about once a week I'd wake up thinking one of my parents or little brother were dead. Other times I don't remember, just woke up to the rush of adrenaline that left me frozen in my bed afraid of some unknown. It's a horrible horrible feeling.
In my case they were one of many symptoms of my chronic illness and fortunately they seem to be going away with treatment. My GP believes I should have been having *really* good dreams along with the really bad ones... But sadly not the case :-P
I hope you find some peace and get some sleep soon.

Yes, but not very often - a few times a year maybe. It is pretty disorienting to wake up scared and with physical fear responses (fast breathing, adrenaline, etc). Hope you can maybe catch a nap later today.

I ate a lot today. It was Eid for us and it is a day of celebration and eating. From early this morning until tonight. Eat eat eat and the food tasted really good. I think my stomach looks like an anaconda ate a warthog. Nice image there eh? Back on the treadmill and time to stop the pigging out and back to broiled or stir fried chicken, simple bbq steak, plain steamed fish etc. No more spring rolls, Pad Thai, rich stews, rice and everything else. Back to getting into shape and getting my body looking good again! ETA all this eating might have given me nightmares too.

Most of the time it is related to eating late in the day. Chocolate is the worst for my nightmares.
Kind of off topic but this post reminded me of when my husband and I first got married. We had Chinese food for dinner. Scallops wrapped in bacon. We usually sheep well and through the night. That night we were both wide awake at 3 am. We turned on the tv and watched it until we eventually fell asleep. It was so wierd!

I don't get nightmares, but I do get sleep paralysis from time to time, never in bed, but always when I doze off on the sofa. Now that is scary.

I have them frequently most likely due to fluctuations in my blood sugar. I had a pretty severe hypo night before last and I had a very vivid nightmare about sharks. Thank you Scy-fy network and T1 Diabetes!

Do you ever get the feeling like you can't move or something and then when you wake up something is stabbing you in the back when you reach consciousness or am I crazy? Probably crazy. I get this huge jolt of excruciating PAIN in my back when I wake up from a nightmare.
It's going to be a long day today.

I'm a lucid dreamer - even when I have what you would consider a 'bad' dream, I'm always aware that it isn't real so it doesn't really have any fear factor.

I don't get what I would classify as "nightmares" very often but I am prone to stress dreams. My latest is that I find myself in a normal situation and my soon-to-be-ex douche is there. And we are together. Then I panic. I think to myself "HOW did this happen? I thought I escaped. I'm back in this relationship?? EEkkk!" Then I wake up and I feel much better realizing it was a dream. I used to have dreams about my teeth falling out or being somewhere naked. I long to have those back. lol

Most of the time it is related to eating late in the day. Chocolate is the worst for my nightmares. This is not true for me. I almost always eat chocolate right before bed and I can't remember the last time I had a nightmare- years and years ago I guess.

Maybe it's work related I get to stay at home. I think I will go back to work doing something fun like working at the dress shop I like to shop at. I will see if they are looking for anyone and then apply there. That's what I want to do most when I go back to work. I worked stressful jobs years ago. When that got to be too much my contract would expire and I wouldn't look for more work. It's just a stabbing pain in the middle of my back. I didn't do drugs or anything weird. I don't drink or smoke. I just get weird pain!

Certain medications can make you have really weird dreams. I had giant lobsters chasing me in one. Most of my disturbing dreams are things like, it's time for a final exam in college but I've never gone to class, or I can't find the building I'm supposed to be in, and my teeth shattering. I will also have relationship dreams like a serious falling out with my dh or things like that. Those feel so vivid sometimes that when I wake up, that awful feeling stays with me well into the day. Quite frequently my dreams affect my moods. I only seem to remember those kinds of dreams. I don't remember good ones!

I have nightmares probably 7-8 times a year. Bad ones that I wake up screaming or crying. There is one that is recurring, and then other random ones. The one that is recurring isn't obviously related to anything in real life that I can pinpoint. But it's always the same. It's very long and very detailed, as many of my dreams are. (I have several recurring dreams that are not nightmares too.)

I tried taking my antidepressant before bed for a few weeks and had bad dreams most nights until I went back to taking it in the morning.

Any time I get too warm while I'm sleeping, I'll have a whopper of a nightmare. I'm apparently Xena Warrior Princess in these dreams and fighting off the world. DH has been hit a few times, shoved out of bed once (I'm shorter and about a 75 pounds lighter than my DH) and kicked countless times. When I'm not in Xena mode, I sit straight up and scream bloody murder before I fully wake up. My 3 year old seems to have the same heat induced nightmares. He wakes up just like me -- wringing with sweat and screaming.

I pretty much only get nightmares when I get too hot when I sleep. I've mostly figured out how to prevent that, so rarely get them. But apparently I am at least having some kind of unpleasant dreams that I don't remember, because my dh says I argue in my sleep. I say that's just because I have to be so nice to everyone at work (in the ER), and so I take it out on whoever appears when I'm asleep.

I have quite violent dreams every now and then, probably once every month or so. In the dreams I'm being chased or I am watching other people being chased and killed (sometimes in gruesome fashion). I think it's because I watch so many movies (such as Quentin Tarantino films) and TV shows such as Criminal Minds that the violence carries over into my sleep. Last time I had one of these dreams, about 3 weeks ago, I woke up just as the bad guy was going to catch me. I said to myself "Phew, it was only a dream" then promptly fell back asleep. Then the dream recommenced where I'd left off. This happened twice more until I finally woke up for good. I felt quite exhausted! I don't get nightmares, but I do get sleep paralysis from time to time, never in bed, but always when I doze off on the sofa. Now that is scary. What is sleep paralysis?

It is when your mind wakes up before your body does, in essence. You are conscious, and can hear everything that is going on, but simply cannot move. It is really scary, and seems to last for ages, but in reality doesn't, then all of a sudden you can move again, and can get up and about. It is well documented.
