I really liked the Discovery of Witches series by Deborah Harkness, and she will be touring this summer promoting her newest book. I'm thinking about going to see her when she's in my town. I've never done anything like this, but I'm an avid reader and it sounds like something that I'd really enjoy. At the local book store she'll be at you can buy the book ($29), get a reserved seat for the reading, and have her sign it after. Have you been to something like this, and how did you like it?

I've been to a few book signings/author readings. Some where you had to buy tickets and some free. I've enjoyed all the ones I've been to - Margaret Atwood, Elie Wiesel, and David Brinkley were a few of my favorites. Have fun!

I have been blessed to see three of my favorite authors - Sharon Kay Penman, Barbara Kingsolver, and Fredrica Mathewes-Green (she writes specifically about my denomination) - do readings and have books signed. I've also seen other signings. They are really fun, I do hope you get to go and enjoy, and get your book signed. I've never paid for a ticket, but I would if it were an author that I really enjoyed.

I have been to a few book readings/signings. All have been free and the book store that sponsored them didn't require that you purchase the book there. I saw plenty of people bring their already-purchased copy. They are very enjoyable and I definitely encourage you to go meet the author!

I went to one to support the author once. She was afraid no one would show up. It wasn't packed, but people came. It was fun. I enjoy hearing an author read their work and the parts they emphasize. It was interesting. I think you should go!

I went to a book signing for Joel Osteen. It was a mad house. We had to line up for hours, standing, then he arrives late but it was nice to see him up close and personal.

I would like to. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it to any. When there were signings near me, I had schedule conflicts

Ok, I decided to go for it and made my reservation! I'm #72 out of 100 spots available and will have a reserved seat with my number on it, so it will be nice to sit and not have to fight the crowd. Now that I'm booked I'm really excited! I'm a huge reader and lover of books, so something like this is right up my alley.

My son LOVES Alton Brown and when he came to the DFW area a few years ago we drove over to hear him speak. It was a crazy house and we ended up standing in line for a very long time (like 4+ hours) to get him to sign my son's cookbook and get a picture with him. Alton was so wonderful - taking a few minutes with each person and staying until every single person had gone through the line. DS was 11 or 12 when we did that and he still says it was worth every minute of it!

I've gone to a book signing for Janet Evanovich, waited for hours and hours and hours but it was great to meet her, get an autograph and a picture. I even asked her to hold up a sign for a picture that said "hi Chris" for my BFF who waited for 1 1/2 hours but then had to leave. Janet was so nice, it was worth the wait.

Mo willems and Eric Carle (I am a teacher and a huge fan of children's books). Mo is great, charming, funny, animated, just like you would want him to be. He is great with the kids especially, really thoughtfully answers their questions. Never been to a book signing for a grown up author though.

I have been to several and they can vary. Sometimes they have been just brief readings and no questions. Others are more extensive with questions and answers. If I like the book and author I try to go.

I been to Pioneer Woman book signing a couple of times... It was fun .. Lots of people but for me it was worth it.. First time she spoke for about 1/2 hour or so... Second time just about 10 minutes.. But she stayed until all books were signed and took pictures with everyone.. She was very nice and very talkitive

I went to a signing by Charlaine Harris, who write the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) books. For the signing, you could stop by the bookstore earlier in the day to pick up a color coded wristband, and later they lined people up a color at a time to meet her. First, she did a Q & A session which was great. I think you had to buy the books there that she signed. When you met her, if you had a camera, you could hand it to the bookstore employee who took a picture of the two of you together. I had fun.

I enjoy them, I am willing to pay for a book, but not willing to pay additional money to attend the signing in the first place.

Just a couple but my most recent was Ann Rice at the Mission Inn on Riverside where she wrote and found inspiration for Angel Time. Was a great experience!

I went to a childhood friend's wife's signing. It was her second book. They're both veterans and the book dealt with the aftermath of his traumatic brain injury. I really enjoyed meeting her and listening to her describe her ordeal in person.

Having worked at the bookstore I have been to/participated in dozens of book signings. And for Deborah Harkness - go for it! I have a copy of the book you are talking about and a Q&A from her ready to post on my blog on the release date. So I emphatically say GO FOR IT!

I've been to a few. We heard Mary Pope Osborne read at the White House Easter Egg Roll one year. She was great with the kids and gave away some of her ideas for future books and asked opinions from the kids. She wasn't signing books, but gave some away. But we already had all her books, so DD gave her book to another kid. DD did get her photo taken with her. We also met Miley Cyrus that day, but DD took her photo of her and MPO to school the next day.
I went to a Jodie Piccoult reading a few years ago for House Rules. It was in a big high school auditorium and I think it was free. You could buy signed books, but I brought my own book there and she signed it. She read some from her new book and talked about 30 minutes about her writing and research process. It was fascinating and I had a great time.

I went to hear Joyce Carol Oates speak and she signed my book. The one thing I regret was not taking a note pad to take notes. (Before cell phones).
