I'm sorry. I just need to be able to express my frustration to someone. I was expecting 2 packages from the same vendor last week and using the USPS package on-line tracking, it showed that they were both enroute and would arrive on the same day. They were shipped 2 day priority mail. When I went to my mailbox, only one package was present though their tracking system showed that they were both delivered at exactly the same time. I live in a condo complex & our locked mailboxes are in a common area. I wanted the USPS to put a tracer on the package and tried telephoning them, but was not able to get through so I filled out their 3 page on-line form and finally got to a small section where I could give some brief info stating the problem. Here is what I wrote in the comment section on 3rd page of the form:
Type of item: I do not know if the item is a package or a priority envelope since I did not receive it.
RE:Priority Mai [HASH] 9405 5102 0098 6287 XXXX XX
Problem: I was expecting 2 packages today from the same vendor. I only received one though tracking shows that both packages were delivered at the same time at 10:56 a.m. The tracking number above is the item I am missing. My mailbox is locked so no one passing by could have taken the item. Both packages would not have fit into my mailbox since the one I received filled it to within 1/2 inch of the dimensions of the box. There was no key left to indicate that it had been placed in one of the larger boxes below (though the postal worker has left keys for my packages in my neighbor's boxes before). I tried calling my local post office, but the lines were continuously busy between noon & 4:30 p.m. I then called the USPS customer service phone number and after being on hold for over 1 hr and 13 minutes, I was summarily disconnected at 5:51 p.m.(PT). I immediately called back only to find the recording now indicated that the office was closed.
When I was asked what I wanted them to do to resolve the issue I said: I would like my undelivered package to be located and delivered to me.
I requested a telephone response.
What I received was this e-mail response:
Hello Ms. XXXXXXX,
I regret learning of the inconvenience you have experience.
I see that your item with tracking number 9405 5102 0098 6287 XXXX XX, was delivered on 7/24/2014 at 10:56 am. If you would like further assistance, please call us at the number listed below.
Please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you.
Charles HarXXX Supervisor, Customer Service XXXXX XXXXX Post Office
Yep, the tracking number he listed is for the package I indicated was not delivered. I do not suffer idiots well! No wonder the USPS is losing billions of dollars with employees such as this.
By the way, my missing package did show up at my door about 9:30 p.m. on the day I filed the complaint. It had been delivered that same day and put in one of the larger keyed boxes in the lower area of my complex's mail center, only once again, the carrier had placed the necessary key in someone elses mailbox. Obviously, another example of the stellar personnel this agency has managed to accumulate. I give up!

I love customer service that doesn't read the problem. You already know that it was "delivered" and at what time. The question is where is it...geez! Good luck finding your package. Hopefully one of your neighbors got the key and will be kind enough to get your package to you.

I'm sorry you are having such issues. But just to put the record straight. The usps is not losing billions. They are actually very efficient and have one of the best track records out if all delivery services in the world. They are being forced to fund retirements for employees they don't even have yet by congress and that is where the in the red numbers come from. It isn't from their actual operations.
I find in cases like this it is sometimes better to go to the post office and deal with it in person although I know that isn't easy.
Carriers are extremely overworked and underpaid (well CCAs anyway, less than $16/hour). They do the best they can.
I hope you find your package soon.

I had a very similar problem. we concluded that the package either got delivered to the wrong address, or that it was stolen (it was our porch, not a locked box) We were immediately sent a replacement from Amazon.

I wish I could say that I have never experienced anything like this.....
At least twice a month I receive other people's mail - different last name and different house or street numbers. We live in a neighborhood where each street has a group of locked mailboxes and we have the locking package boxes too. This month USPS left a package at my doorstep for someone with a different last name and a totally different house AND street number. It was delivered earlier in the day than our regular mail so I flagged down our mail carrier when they showed up in the afternoon and gave the pkg to him. This month I also rec'd someones renewal notification for Playboy magazine...really don't want that crap in my mail as my kids sometimes get the mail for me and look thru it to see if they got any new Lego catalogs.
We have also rec'd packages in the mail that were missed delivered when we have been out of town. The packages just sit there until we get back and realize they don't belong to us.

I feel your pain. We held the mail a few weeks ago while on vacation and they delivered a couple of days, while we were out of town and it was supposed to be held, my sister picked that up and had it for us. She happened to drive by and saw boxes on the porch.
But they lost the rest. Can't find it. Don't know where it is. Don't care to look for it. Our mailman said it was in his area and he was going to deliver it and then it was gone. Mail delivery perscriptions, bills, who knows what else.

Speaking for myself here I know some people have a hard time reading the regular font. The larger is easier on the eyes at least for some of us.

What irritates me the most in your post is the fact that you held for 1 hour and 13 minutes and were disconnected, only to call back and be told they were closed. I have had that happen before it is really piss poor customer service to do that to people. Oh and I should say it was the USPS that did it to me too.
Sorry for all your hassle!
I will I ship a lot for work UPS and USPS and between the two UPS is usually the only I have the most problems with.

Speaking for myself here I know some people have a hard time reading the regular font. The larger is easier on the eyes at least for some of us.
I thought of that, but then figured that anyone who needed larger font than the default would need to adjust their screen settings anyway to read all the other posts, and then the gigantic font would be ginormous. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well maybe if people didn't parrot misinformation about their funding I wouldn't have to. I know tons of people who work for them and they are hard working honest people. I stand up for that. My vent with USPS is that I have had tracking numbers for two orders since Friday and neither are showing up in their system. Just a minor irritation really but why have a tracking number if you can't track it?

Thank you for your clarification of the USPS profitability or lack thereof. You are quite right that it isn't easy to handle this in person at the Post Office. I had a stroke in 2011 and do not drive anymore. I use a walker. I guess I could have struggled and taken a cab to the PO, but that would have cost around $30 round trip which really isn't economically feasible on a limited budget and is greater than the cost of what was in the missing package. Even if I were able to freely move around, a customer should not have to waste their time and go out of their way to go to the PO and wait in line if the person(s) responsible had just done their job to begin with. I cannot think of any other business where it would actually be acceptable to suggest that the best way to resolve a customer service issue involves making the customer to show up at the business in person. I may sympathize with workers who are overworked and underpaid, however, if what I regularly see is their best, I do believe that they need to maybe find some new workers. I appreciate your sympathy and hopes that I locate the missing package, however, as I indicated in my post, the missing package did show up at my door door later that night. A neighbor in whose mailbox the carrier had left the key for one of the larger package boxes was kind enough to bring it over. This is the 3rd time in less than one month (of the 7 packages I received during that month) that the key for one of my large packages was left in the wrong box. (Since I am disabled, I do rely on being able to shop on-line and order everything from toilet paper to all non-perishables from Amazon and other vendors). I have gotten the the key for someone elses package left in my box twice during the same period. There are 48 mailboxes so it's not like this is a bustling huge complex involving hundreds of people. I don't care how overworked you are, that is a pretty poor record. I believe we have already established the quality of their Customer Service just by the example the dumping of phone calls 10 minutes prior to closing and by the totally inane reply I received when requesting their help.

I had changed the color & italicized the the font to try to make the e-mail quotes clear. Somehow I must have changed the font size. I do apologize if that somehow stressed you enough to need to complain about it.

What did you all do in the years before there were tracking numbers? You were just in a state of suspense wondering when your item would be delivered to you. Surprise, the box arrived. Hooray!
...When most things took 4 to 6 weeks to be delivered to you because they waited on the "check to clear"...all before the electronic age.
I do not get this constant checking of tracking numbers (unless it is some type of medication). If I need an item by a certain date, I order it enough in advance that I will receive it in time. I don't get my "knickers in a twist" about stuff like this, but that's just me.

And we used to wait for news of family members' health and life events to be delivered by Pony Express, but times change and our expectations change when companies start offering new services. Now we expect to have faster updates via phone, text ,and email - and we'd be ticked if the company were were paying to provide that service did a poor job of it. "We used to walk uphill both ways" kind of complaint shut-downs don't really work for me.

Ugh. Glad you got your package though. But I can totally sympathize. I once ordered something from Amazon and although I have Prime they sent it via something called "Smartmail" or "Smart...something". Which isn't very smart. When it didn't arrive in the promised two days I checked the tracking on Amazon. It referred me to the USPS tracking page. That page said "en route" or something. Two days later it said "delivered, front porch" my address and street. Um... my front porch was empty of packages. So not having been born yesterday (as my mother always said) and having had many prior bad experiences with out local post office, I went up there in person. Asked for the supervisor. He came out, heard my story, said something about how "delivered" just means it arrived at the post office. I reminded him that "delivered front porch" with address is very different from "delivered to post office". He went to the back to check, came back and insisted that it was not there. I insisted that I get his supervisor's name, rank and serial number, and I left. Three hours later there was a knock at my door. It was that supervisor with my package. If I hadn't been afraid he would sabotage my mail delivery I might have mentioned that he had insisted to me that the package was nowhere to be found. Another time a neighbor put a stop on her mail while she went on vacation. This was during a very rainy week. Unfortunately her front porch is shielded from view by some bushes so none of us saw what was happening. The mail delivery guy was just dumping her mail on the front porch. At first he'd been putting it in the box, but when that overflowed he just dumped it on the porch. It was not a big porch and rain blew in. She came home to find wet mail! Seriously, this showed us all that the mail guy was totally stupid. I mean, stop order or not, logically if mail is piling up shouldn't you do something about it? Like not deliver it? or knock on the door? Or even call the police because maybe someone is lying dead inside and can't open the door. We have very poor delivery here in my area, "in the shadow of the nation's capital" as they say, so I could go on. But I won't.

I feel for you. I always have the worst luck with the USPS, whether I'm waiting for something or it's something I've sent.
I've come to accept it as a part of my life. I will say, though, that the folks who work at my local office are very nice people.

I will say, though, that the folks who work at my local office are very nice people. This is how I feel. I have had the worst luck with USPS when it comes to mail/packages. The post office in my small town has one woman that runs the front and a older man. The woman is sooooo rude. I mean everyone has complained about her rudeness. So I drive 15mins to the other PO and deal with them. They are super nice and helpful. I try and do something nice around the holidays for them. So just like any job there is a few bad apples but they all aren't bad. Good luck!

Although I am a titch surprised that, had it actually been a complaint, you would be bothered by that in a complaining vent thread. Sometimes the item shows arriving in your state or town, then leaving your state or town. It's interesting to see how shipped items travel to their destinations.

On the flipside, I was expecting a package last week. We had a substitute carrier on the scheduled delivery day, so while I was disappointed the package didn't arrive, I was not surprised. Imagine my delight and amazement when a few short minutes later the carrier came back to my house with the package in hand!
Also, I was tracking another shipment that was due to be delivered on Monday. I was pleasantly surprised to find it outside my front door on Saturday instead.
Yes, USPS employees make mistakes (or are careless), as do many other businesses and employees today. Most days, though, I am just happy to have my mail delivered to my door.
I'm sorry you had such a disappointing experience. Personally, I would never stay on hold that long.
*and no, I don't work for the post office, nor do I play a mail carrier on the intrawebs*

While I'm fully aware of why the USPS is "losing" money because of the retirement funding issue (which is total and complete CRAP in my opinion and solely the blame of one administration), and I know there are hard working people there as well - I loathe the USPS. I've not had good luck with them at all in the recent couple of years. It completely aggravates me that I can send a package for $16 priority flat rate and it doesn't include insurance?!?! Seriously, I can send the same package for less via UPS and Fedex and by default it's covered at $100. I sent this particular package via USPS on purpose because of the person/place I was having it delivered and of course they lost it. Never to be found again. I've NEVER had that problem with UPS and Fedex. Not that they're perfect, but just saying I've personally never had any issues with them. And while I'm definitely pro-Union, this Union seems to be the worst run Union around. The mail carrier at my last address had had that job for 25+ years. She was the WORST carrier ever - untold amount of complaints against her to the Postmaster, yet they refused to correct her behavior or do anything about it. If I did my job like she did, I would have been fired long ago.

A year ago I had ordered a big order of vinyl. It showed that it was being delivered that day. I heard the mail truck go by and went out to get it (they usually leave boxes under the box on nice days or by the service door) and there was nothing. Checked online and it showed that it had been delivered.
Called the PO and they could not help me until the driver had returned for the day, but of course they did not call me. I called again the next day and the post master said the driver had decided to keep the package safe in the trunk of her personal car for me and they would deliver when she came back to work from her days off.
Wasn't that so very nice of her? Somehow I think if I had not called I would never had seen my package of vinyl. I also would have liked to ask for her to have been written up for putting it in her personal car, but DH and I talked about it and decided that may bite us in the but.

You will wait around and see if it happens to show up in the next few days? Sure, tracking numbers are something that has not be around for years and years and not long at all with the USPS for all packages, but when I am expecting something to arrive and I check the tracking and it says it was delivered but it is not in my box, on my porch, etc, then I am going to start making calls to find my package.
