Apparently it's one large stone filled with debris and the gallbladder is inflamed. Radiology said head straight to jail, do not pass go. They fear another large attack will hurt my pancreas.
I'm upset, I don't want it removed, I've heard too many stories of people still having issues.
Was it worth it for you? Do you still have issues? Or were you able to save it naturally?
***the surgeon had a cancellation so I was able to have the surgery this morning. She was able to do it laparoscopically. I'm feeling pretty good, a little sore inside and my throat is a little sore from the breathing tube. I had a small gallbladder attack last night so it affirmed I need it out. The surgeon said my gallbladder looked nasty, I'm glad it's been taken care of.
I've been put out two other times and woke up super easily, this time I was hard to wake up, I could barely keep my eyes open.
I was discharged at 3:30, I basically slept until dinner time.
So far I've had an orange, an organic health bar, and for dinner a pork chop with a few potatoes. No issues yet.
Thank you everyone for your advice and words of comfort.

I went to the hospital on a Monday because of pain and vomiting, had mine out on Wednesday and after the initial tenderness around the surgery site have not a problem at all and it has been 4 years. I had not been previously diagnosed with any gall bladder issues but after it was out the recurring nausea that I dealt with disappeared. For about 2 months after I could not eat fried eggs but now have no problem with anything, although generally I don't eat anything fried. Although I hadn't realized it was an issue before I felt much better with it gone.
Good Luck

It is so worth it. After dealing with the pain of gall bladder attacks for so many years, recovery after surgery about 5 years ago seemed like a dream. I feel so much better and can eat anything now without pain. You won't regret getting it over with. Sending prayers for a quick recovery.

I ended up in the ER with a very angry liver due to a gallstone getting caught in a duct. Had gallbladder removed and life is good. Can I eat pancakes like I used to be able too? No. But my liver is still working and that is a good thing. It isn't just the gallbladder to take into account. Pancreatitis is not worth the risk.

I had problems for years before I had to have it removed. After a particularly bad attack over Easter weekend, the surgeon gave me a choice - have it out today or tomorrow. It was well worth the surgery and I haven't had any lasting effects in the 10 years since. I even eat fried food occasionally with no problems. Just not having to worry about a bad attack ever again made the surgery worth it.

Yep ... Get er done!
I had a very scary attack that blocked my main bile duct to my stomach with a stone.
Recovery from laparoscopic surgery is not too bad.
I can eat what I want now without trouble. (I do need to make better choice on food though! ;-)
Best wishes!

After having attacks for months and not knowing what it was, I ended up in the ER and dx with a diseased gallbladder. 2 weeks later, they removed it. Best decision EVER. The pain was gone immediately and was very much worth the discomfort of the surgery.

Absolutely worth it. I don't miss mine a bit and haven't had any trouble or complications at all after having it out. It's been 7 years and no regrets.

I had mine removed in December and have had zero problems afterwards. I can eat anything I want (but don't tell my MIL because I used it as an excuse not to eat something at her house that I absolutely hate. She would have been insulted and she's a food pusher, but a simple "I had my GB out and I have to be careful what I eat" worked!)

Have it out. It can be life threatening if you get an infection.
Most people suffer no long term effects.
ETA - I had mine out the old fashioned way 35 years ago...meaning full surgery, 8 days in the hospital. It was a complication of my first pregnancy. It was STILL worth it.

Thanks everyone. I was a little surprised that they sent me straight to ER, I didn't feel like it was that bad yet.
But apparently I've been having attacks for a while, before I knew what they were.
I guess we'll see what the surgeon says and go from there. I'm a big baby when it comes to being put under and so I've been putting this off as long as I can.

Good luck, @tinyt. I understand about not wanting to undergo anesthesia. Hang in there!

I had mine out 15 years ago. I never had a bad attack and would have been fine for a while longer I'm sure, but the surgeon put fear in me by talking about the complications that can come from not removing it, and they sounded horrific.
I have never had any problems at all, recovery was relatively quick and easy, and I can eat whatever I want.

I had mine out laparoscopically about 17 years ago. Very speedy recovery and no issues whatsoever. It was my first and only time under general anesthetic and I was nervous about that too but I hated living in fear of more attacks. Good luck to you!

Question for those that can't eat certain foods, what happens when you do eat those foods? Diarrhea or stomach pain?

I will follow your story because yesterday I had an US for my gallbladder. My liver enzymes are elevated and I've had issues with bile climbing my esophagus at night. I figure I will probably have surgery in the next few weeks. My concern is that I have projects due for work, so I am working on wrapping them up.

When I had my GB out I already felt better when I woke up in the recovery room. I didn't realize how bad that thing made me feel until it was taken out. I've had no problems at all in the years since it was removed, I can eat anything at all - nothing bothers me. No issues at all. So glad I had it taken out.

Question for those that can't eat certain foods, what happens when you do eat those foods? Diarrhea or stomach pain? Nothing more than a need to go poo. It isn't graphic or explosive just gotta go soon. I'd probably never even realize other than pancakes make me gotta go. It's become a joke at our house.

Head straight to the ER and don't stop until you are gall bladder free. Hopefully, you're not at home. Keeping it inside of you can make you very very sick. Normally, it's a simple surgery and not something to be feared. Though it's natural to be scared and I hope someone is there to keep you company while you wait. I'm sorry that you have to have gall bladder surgery, but it's very routine nowadays and once it's gone it's typical to feel relief. Wishing you an easy surgery and recovery.

I'm in the ER right now, waiting for what seems like an eternity. I am alone just because we thought it was only going to be the ultrasound. My DH is on standby to come right away but there's no sense in him making the drive until we know more.

I had my little devil removed almost 2 years ago and it was totally worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
You will be amazed at how much better you feel.

I had mine out in 1999 and have had no trouble eating any food I wish to eat--and no problems after eating those foods.
The laparoscopy surgery was nothing compared to what happened prior to that method. Mine was done first thing in the morning and I was sent home about 4 PM. Took about a week to heal.
My nephew didn't get diagnosed and his gall bladder became inflamed and he had a very difficult time.
You will be happy to have it all resolved.

Have it out, my SIL waited for over 2 years and couldn't have it out laparoscopically as it was so inflamed, almost to the point over rupturing.
Had mine out over 20 years ago 6 after ds was born, after only 7 weeks of sporadic but extremely painful attacks. I have had no complications or issues. My SIL has had no problems since, as well.
