My new obsession should be looking for a job... haha But seriously, this came up on my feed on FB... Selma Mansion... two people bought it and restoring it... I don't know the whole story as I just jumped on and literally clicked through a ton of pictures.. it's an old southern mansion.. the before pictures are awesome and what they are doing to it. I have spent hours looking at the pictures though and their comments.... they are pretty active in explaining and answering questions.... Go to FB and type in Selma Mansion and you should find it.... Their blog is selmamansionrebirth.com/ but they haven't updated it at all. I can't imagine why.. haha.. but they are definitely posting like 3 and 4 times a day on FB. It's sad though, it really fell apart quite recently..... it sure doesn't take long for a house to crumble when not being taken care of. One of the most fascinating things I found so far, is that a tree of some sort grew under the porch and through the porch....some of the comments were it probably started out as a vine since the mansion is covered in vines... and there was one tree on the property that looked like it had some kind of gross tumor growing out of it.... But of course the pictures to the inside are just to cool for words...

That mansion is awesome. A friend just bought an old house - built in 1868 - and is starting the restoration process. Here is the link to her blog about it. They bought at a closed bid auction from the town for a song - their bid was only 4 figures.

The restoring part hasn't been near as much fun as the demolition!!! LOL

I adore old houses. It's half the reason I became a realtor. I'm tickled pink that I get to list my first old house in a couple of weeks. It's over a 100 years old and cute as a button. (and about the same size. It's definitely not the town mansion.)
Thanks for the links. I love seeing old houses being restored.

I love old houses! Thanks for sharing. I'm sad as we had an old historic house in our town that has needed work for years (the latest owners tried but they had no money and it sounds like little know how). Anyway it was damaged beyond repair in storms a year or so ago and had to be torn down as it was so unsafe.

I love old houses - we almost bought one when we moved to our little town. But after taking my parents through it (who had spent 30+ years restoring a century home) all my mother saw was "windows, no closets, new front porch, new kitchen, not liveable" - and at the time, DH was not Mr. Fix It!
So we built a new house, and when we moved 6 years ago, built another new one....and now with my business in the house, I don't see an older home in our future any time soon!

I went on fb to look and shared the aerial views with my SIL in VA and said we needed to go there. Then it hit me, when I saw the pool, that it looked so familiar. I dug out all the old wedding invites that I save and DH's cousin had his wedding reception there in 1995. I'm so glad we drove half away across the country with 3 kids to go. It was a beautiful home and it makes me incredibly sad that in 20 years it became such a mess. I wish I had taken pics at the time.

Yes! It is so sad how fast it fell apart. I remember sitting in different rooms for the reception. But the main thing I remember is how weird it was that the pool was in the front of the house. It looks like a contractor bought the land and starting building the other homes and then went bankrupt. It's very sad that the town of Leesburg let this happen. Also noticed a post saying that some vandalism was done and things were stolen from the house.

I guess the pool thing according to the FB page was placed there to get the most of the sunlight.... I saw the post about some fancy faucet that was stolen (I am sure among a lot of other things)... It is sad... but at least it is being saved!! I love following their daily posts....I just saw today they are not posting on the weekend.. I am going through withdrawals right now... HAHA
