I'm thinking about buying a quilt kit. I was looking at hancocks of Paducah online. Are these a good value (are their regular price and special price accurate?) it looks like I'll have to buy the batting and backing separate?
I've done a few quilts but it's been a while. Previously I would search for just the right fabric for the pattern but I can't do that now.

I didn't look at the kits at Hancock, but I'd suggest you consider the kit from Missouri Star quilt co. They are offering everything, including having them do the quilting on the quilt, the batting, the backing, etc-- for $99. Not sure if you had a specific style or pattern in mind, and if so, the MSQC deal might not appeal, but the price is outstanding for someone who doesn't have all the equipment and materials already on hand.

If they are on sale, they are usually a good value in that you get all the topside fabrics you need and they coordinate together nicely. I have purchased at least 8 to 10 kits from them over the past 5 years and they are always well put together and have plenty of fabric. HofP have lots of sales so just wait until there is one to purchase.

Connecting Threads and The Fat Quarter shop have nice kits too.
Kits don't come with the backing/batting. I don't know why no backing.
Anyhow....some companies will show the backing fabric next to a kit. That way you know what works with the other fabrics.
MSQC has very few kits. HP, Connecting Threads, Fat Quarter, or and Keepsake have a lot of kits.

Yes it will be good. Do you have shops around you that you could see if someone has fabric to look at in person. I am guessing you like the pattern and that is why you would order online.

Oh, I've been looking at that kit for a while. I LOVE the colors and the design. The sale price of $89.99 is a great price for the size and that is probably as low as the price on that one will go (that is a 30% discount). If you like it, I would get it while it's still in stock.

I think it's a good deal for a kit, but I've never gotten a kit. If you love the design and colors, I would say go for it!

I've never ordered a kit from Hancocks but I have from Fat Quarter Shop and Craftsy. For a fact, Fat Quarter Shop gives you so much extra 'oops' fabric that you will have plenty. I ordered a Craftys kit last month but haven't done it yet so I couldn't say but I've heard they are good. Shabby Fabrics is also very good with their kits but not quite as generous. I stopped ordering much at Hancocks because it takes forever to get your packages. Not so with the other's I order from. But sometimes they have sales or fabrics I can only find through them so I do order from them occasionally. Show us what you get.
