I went to our small town ER over the weekend because of another gallbladder attack. The doctor ordered an urgent ultrasound for me. I had it done Tuesday, they wouldn't tell me anything other than that my family doctor would go over the results. But then the doctor in the building did come in and asked me to go straight to the ER to speak to a surgeon about my large gallstone (shared about that on another thread)
That same day my regular doctor's nurse phoned and said my doctor wanted to see me to go over my ultrasound results. Not sure why I have to see her if I've already gotten everything lined up.
So now my mind is going crazy with all the possibilities. Did they find something else? They took sonograms of all my organs. Cancer runs in the family, so my paranoia is running pretty high right now.
Did you get a callback and it was nothing? Would it just be to go over the gallbladder issue? I hate that they can't tell you over the phone first so if there is bad news, you can at least freak out at home and not at the clinic. Especially because I know a few of the staff and I'm pretty private about my health.
I see the doctor later today, just panicking a little and thought I'd see if anyone had experience with this.

Breathe!
The waiting game and unknown is the worst part. A similar thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Ultrasound late one day and the next day a call that I needed to see a surgeon with no explanation why. for me, the person who called was the doctor's secretary, she had no clue what was going on and couldn't answer any questions.
Thinking about you.

Maybe your doctor isn't aware you got everything lined up with the surgeon already? I hope that is nothing more than that for you.
Best of luck.

I do understand your anxiety, though. I'm having the same thing right now. It's very unsettling.

Very unsettling. And as my sister said, "I will be pissed if you cancer too".
My mom had it, and survived. My other sister (and best friend) had an extremely rare brain cancer and died two years later, my brother just had skin cancer removed from his chin. It's like we're being picked off one by one and I'm terrified it's my turn.
But I keep telling myself that logically it'll just be about my gallstone. But my intuition is saying otherwise.

I understand your feelings. Try to relax, it's probably nothing. And you'll be really glad to have the gallbladder situation resolved. Good luck!

I'm also thinking it's probably nothing more than your doctor not knowing that you already heard the results from a surgeon in the ER... there's no way your doctor would have known about that unless you told him that, is there?? I doubt the surgeon would have communicated the fact that he spoke with you to your doctor, unless you had asked him to tell your doctor.
(some doctors don't always pay attention to details like that in their patients' charts-- case in point: I had a fibroid I had known about for YEARS, and I ASKED to have an ultrasound to get an update on its size. A couple days later I got called to go into my doctor's office, where he sat me down and very seriously told me, I don't want to alarm you, but you have a mass..." Well, DUH!! I knew that, and it was IN MY FILE! He just hadn't read the whole thing because I usually saw one of his nurse practitioners, and not him. FYI, I found another doctor shortly after that.)

So glad you were able to get an appointment today instead of having to wait. Yes, me too. They first asked me to come in next week Tuesday but I didn't want to be anxious over Easter weekend so they were able to squeeze me in today!

My guess is that your regular doctor just got the results of your ultrasound and noticed you have gallstones. He wants to tell you that you need your gallbladder removed. He probably isn't aware that you've already gotten the surgery scheduled.
Don't panic. Just take a deep breath. If you don't feel like you can wait to talk to him, call the nurse back and let her know you already have the surgery lined up. If it's about your gallbladder, you can save yourself an office visit and co-pay.

Have BTDT on every possible side of the equation. I'd bet a ton of money it is only because your regular doctor got the results and they indicated you needed to see a surgeon about your gall bladder very soon.
An ultrasound is not going to be very helpful in determining cancer in that area. If they were worried about cancer, you would have already been sent for additional imaging modalities.

I'm glad that your doctor was able to see you today instead of having to wait - hopefully it was just to tell you what you already know! Please let us know how the appointment went.

Good news, it was just regarding my gallbladder. What a relief! My doctor's nurse was very apologetic that she hadn't told me it wasn't anything to stress about.
My doctor didn't know that a referral had been made to a surgeon, and she recommended another surgeon just because she comes to our community to perform these surgeries vs me having a drive to the nearest city. And it looks like the surgery could happen at the beginning of April.
Thanks for keeping me off the ledge, I'm terrified of certain illnesses and jump to conclusions far too quickly!
Now I just need to get this pesky gallbladder out and get on with loving life!
Thanks again, the support from this group is why I keep coming back even if I don't participate very much.

Maybe your doctor isn't aware you got everything lined up with the surgeon already? I hope that is nothing more than that for you. Best of luck. This... Normal procedure most places is to let the family doctor handle talking to the patient... Sounds like the surgeon there was being helpful and shortcutting things for you, and that duplication is spooking you... As weird as it may sound, you'd be sent to the ER for a gallstone/gallbladder problem faster than you would for a cancer concern... An ultrasound can't diagnose cancer - it can only see if there's a mass, so they would have sent you for additional testing and not to the ER... Annnnnd, just saw the update...lol
