Any Kohls experts out there that can help me remember how this works?
I bought some items from Kohls online that I just received yesterday. When I unpacked my shipment, I realized that I accidentally bought the same sweater twice (what an idiot!). If I simply return the sweater, it will take me below the mark to earn Kohls cash, so I'll lose $10.
I can exchange the sweater, but I know they have some weird rules involving exchanges in situations where Kohls cash was earned. I believe that the only way you can keep the Kohls cash is if you find an item of the exact same price (doesn't have to be the same item, just the same exact price) to exchange it with. The part I'm not sure about, do they base the price on the exact price I paid for the item (it was $19.20 on sale, and then of course I had a $10 off coupon and a 30% off coupon that I used on the whole order) or is it the original price of the item, before any sales, coupons, etc., which was $48? Common sense would dictate that it would be the price I paid for it. But, my dd and I are both remembering that the policy was kind of strange (I did this once, but a long time ago) and we think it was the original price.
Can someone help me out here? I know I can wait until Monday and call Kohls myself, but it's driving me crazy. I looked on their site and really couldn't find the answer. It seemed to deal more with returns involving Kohls cash, not exchanges.

Okay, so no thanks to any of you (despite 173 views) I have my answer. I'm kidding of course--truly! So, just in case anyone else ever wants to know, here's how it works (and I'm not happy!): I can return the item, get my money back and lose my $10 Kohls cash. I can exchange the item in store (can't exchange items online) and keep my Kohls cash. But to do that I have to find something in store for the exact same price as the item's original cost, even if it was on sale when I bought it. The caveat is, if the item is clearance priced, then it goes by the clearance price instead. Unfortunately, this ticket of course shows up as clearance. Clearance price is $14.40, although I paid $19.20 for it just a few days ago. Oh well. I'm going to take my dd to the store with me this week. We'll both split up and scour the clearance areas for something we like that's $14.40. It stinks and I think it's the silliest policy ever. If the goal was to get me to spend $50 to earn Kohls cash, then as long as I'm still $50 or over, why isn't that good enough? It's weird. Oh well, wish me luck!

Can you give it to someone? Donate it and take a tax write off? Maybe a women's shelter?

Can you return it and get a Kohl's gift card? I think I've done that in the past to keep my Kohl's cash.

Hmmm...no one brought up the gift card idea. I wonder why? Maybe I'll ask about it. And I did think about giving it away and maybe I will still do that. It's a very cute sweater. Most of my friends aren't plus-sized (as I unfortunately currently am) but I might be able to find someone. And of course a women's shelter is a really nice idea too and one I'll keep in mind.

Okay, I checked with Kohls and for clearance-priced items, I must do an exchange for an item at the same price--gift cards aren't an option. Well they are an option, but I still lost my Kohls cash, so I'm no better off than if I just got my money back.
So at least I know my options--comb through the store for something that exact same amount or donate the sweater.
I still think the policy is stupid, but it was my own mistake so I can't be upset with anyone about it. I'm not out that much so it's nothing to fret about; just trying to make the most of my money. Thanks all!

I find this so unfriendly to customer service. I had this happen with an item not fitting and it being on clearance by the time it was recieved. I would have happily taken a gift card for what I paid. I got so irritated, I returned the whole order including what I planned to keep. By the way, they clearance each brand different. So Vera Wang will end in 0.10, Oshkosh will end in 0.20 ect. It makes an exchange absolutely impossible! I give the store another 5 years before going under to more customer friendly competitors.

Another vote for just donating the sweater or using it for a gift.
