Green beans. I can't seem to season fresh green beans so they taste like anything much. They are always bland when I make them. I can make really complicated meals, but I can't master basic green beans. I know what you mean! Some people can just boil those beans and make them so flavorful! Is it possible grandma uses chicken stock instead of water or throws some ham hocks in? Maybe she's holding out on you with the green beans so that hers will always be the best.

I am a terrible baker. TERRIBLE.
I'm a very good cook and I've never come across something I can't make, but baking is a totally different story. I tried for years and years to get good, and nope. I finally gave up.

I hardly ever cook steak, because I have a hard time getting it right. I'm always afraid of undercooking it, but always end up overcooking it. So now I have this new grill pan I love, and my steaks came out perfect (with DS breathing down my neck, telling me to take them out before they were actually done). So I'll do it again sometime soon. Hopefully my luck with hold. Dh struggles with steaks too. I think part of it for him is because we like them cooked differently. He likes them well done and I like them medium (so they can go a little longer or shorter).

I can't get the gravy to come out right either. I don't even try it anymore, lol. Every Thanksgiving for years I have gotten the turkey gravy lesson from my mom, who of course makes fabulous gravy (all flavors) and I still suck at it My other struggle is pancakes, I just make French Toast or waffles now!

asparagus. for some reason, I can't get that just right. maybe because I don't eat it and I only make it for my inlaws. the funny thing is that I can kick ass on cooking green beans but I'm at a loss when it comes to asparagus. go figure.

I finally gave up. I can bake cookies, but brownies and cakes are out. I cannot even get a boxed mix to work. I do t know what I do wrong but they come out under or over cooked every time. I gave up. My dd is now the baker in the house and hmshe makes everything from scratch and they always taste amazing.

Oh, I can do sauteed beans or a green bean casserole. I just can't do old-fashioned boiled green beans and that's what my kids always wanted. "Why can't you make PLAIN green beans, mom?" So, I'd make them and then the consensus was they don't taste like grandma's. I made them exactly like she said, but they never tasted the same. Grandma's love, I guess. spongemom lisae I didn't think I could cook green beans either until I found this recipe. I used Paul Newman's Olive Oil and Vinegar dressing instead of non-creamy Caesar because I didn't find it at our grocery store. We loved it! www.littlemisscelebration.com/2013/02/28/quick-and-delicious-caesar-green-beans/Thanks, I have it pinned.

I love chicken noodle soup, but every time I make it it is bland.

Rice on the stovetop. (steamer works for me but I can't make Yvonne's Mexican Rice in there) and definitely Cornbread to save my life, always comes out dry and gross.

Yeast bread. I can't get it to rise. For Easter dinner dessert I made Squillian's carrot cake. I've only made it twice and each time I can't get it to rise either. The cake tastes great, it just doesn't look very nice.

Banana cream pie - never turns out right and it is my dh's favorite pie. His mother made it all the time, and she would watch me make it, using her recipe, and it still turned out soupy.

Butter chicken.
I've got a recipe that is *almost* there but I cannot for the life of me get it to taste like restaurant butter chicken. There is something I am missing that I can never put my finger on.

Does it involve beef that isn't ground? Because I cannot cook a single beef recipe. Steak, stirfry, with the grain, against the grain, marinated, tenderized, it just doesn't matter. It's never tasty.

I'm a pretty good cook but I always over cook fish, every d@mn time. I'm afraid it will be raw so I give it that little bit extra and it gets dry. That's why I usually order fish at a restaurant, since they know what they're doing.

Unsweetened iced tea! It seems like it should be a no-brainer but I just can't get it right. I love it in restaurants (after I add my no cal sweetener) but can't replicate it at home.
