Does anyone know how if there is a time limit that an executor has to finish distributing the estate to the heirs after private is complete? The will was probated in Florida, if that makes a difference. Thanks!!
ETA:I know probate itself can take a while, but that is all done. The order to discharge from the court was given over 6 months ago. The executor "just hasn't gotten to it" to wrote the final checks. Just trying to figure out if there is a time frame in which the executor has to do that.

I know with my mom it was over a year. She had everything in order. It was all of the postings that had to be done and then wait to hear if someone contested something. Ours went through without any issues. The time seemed awfully long, but it was the process and out of our hands.

When my mother-in-law died my husband was executor. The lawyer told us to expect about 6-8 months for the process. It took more like nine months, but part of that was us; we took a break from cleaning out the house over the holidays and that extended things a bit. Her estate was pretty simple and small, with the house being the major asset.
We are in Illinois. It may vary greatly from state to state.

I wonder if the estate had to pay income taxes or get a refund and they are waiting for that to come back. Also, if the deceased had a trust it may go to whoever is named in the trust and I think at that point that person owns whatever was in the trust. They can disperse of it how and when they see fit. I could be wrong, but this is what I have been told
