OK, now that I have irritated some of you, can someone explain why people post such short thread titles when there is so much room available? I just did it to make a point but I ususally have a hard time fitting in my questions. I wonder why so many people post titles that disclose nothing or very little about the post.
Does it get more people to look at it? or less?

I prefer it when the thread title tells a bit about the topic of the post. The vague subject lines irritate me a little, but I admit I can be easily irritated.

I'm getting better at looking at the poster's name if I think it has been created for controversy. Life is too short. Otherwise I am usually game for opening most threads or just hover over the title so see if I might be interested.

I missed the irritation...what did you do?

I sometimes wonder if it has to do with so many people using their phones to access the board. Do they dislike typing a lot on one, or does the app allow for less to be typed or seen in the subject? Those kinds of things.

That's probably the only thing I miss about the old board, my thread titles could be long-winded and descriptive. I usually find it hard to fit my question in the space limitations here.

I missed the irritation...what did you do? I think she means she intentionally irritated us with her post title to make a point.

We live in an irritating era of click bait. I loathe click bait. Loathe it.

I always try to put what the thread is about ~ that way people can search and find. I post a lot about TV shows and movies ~ it helps to have the name in the thread.

Eh, not too irritating when I can hover on the title and read the first few sentences of the post.

If I can't work it out from the title, I usually just hover to see what the first post says.

I just use the hover feature that this board has. Even with a long title, sometimes I'm not sure what the subject is so I just hover before I click.

or just hover over the title so see if I might be interested. That's what I always do - hover over the title.

I click on anything that looks interesting. If I don't find it so, I just move on.

I think it was more irritating on the old board way back when many had slow internet so it would take forever for the thread to load.

When they want you to click on a link, usually done to try to sell you something. The title is usually misleading enough that you click thinking it is one thing, but it is actually something else.

Click bait = a non-descript title designed to make you thing it's exciting enough to click, when really the subject isn't something exciting or of interest to you.
On FB it might be something like "this woman was pulled over for speeding, what she did next will amaze you".

I'm a hover-er. If the title is not descriptive and the first few lines that show during the hover don't interest me then I skip. Plus I have three people on ignore and that's keeps away a lot of irritation.

If it's a vague title, I look at who started the thread and how many responses there are before I open it. I'm another iPad user who can't hover.
