I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find a thread about it. Where do you shop for plus-size swimsuits? I'm going to Hawaii for the first time with my family this summer, and am starting to think about what I'm going to wear. I had grand plans to lose a bunch of weight, but as I sit here drinking my diet coke and eating easter candy, I have to finally admit to myself that I'm not going to magically wake up and be a size 6. (I'd even settle for waking up as a size 16! haha!) The thought of walking around a resort and the beach in a swimsuit terrifies me. I'm 5'5" and usually wear a size 20. I hate the thought of spending a ton of money on a suit that I know I won't wear much other than this trip, so I'd rather keep it close to or under $100. However- I want to feel as confident as I can, so I know I need to buy something decent that will hold everything in place and have some coverage.
So- with those details, where would you shop? Bonus points if it's online with a great return/exchange policy. I live in a rural area that is over 1 1/2 hours from a city large enough to have a mall.

SwimsuitsforAll has a great selection. You do have to pay for return shipping, but their prices are reasonable and should offset the shipping - swimsuits are lightweight to mail back. I'd order like 15 and see which one you like best.
I've had good luck with JC Penney in the past too, and you can return free in store next time you're in the bigger city (if that happens somewhat regularly).

Wardrobe Oxygen posted a review of some plus-sized swimsuits. She tried on a bunch of cute ones with pics posted. Here's a link: Wardrobe Oxygen Swimsuit Review

I've been loving Lane Bryant's swim wear the last few summers. They have a mix of a younger styles and more modest ones. My favorite is a tankini top with short board shorts. I have several different tops and shorts and like to mix and match them. Here's what they've got right now. m.lanebryant.com/categories/21404c21430/products

I love land's end - specifically their swim shorts w/ built-in liners and tankini tops. I haven't yet looked this year, but they usually have the shorts in several lengths, which on 5'4" me range from bermuda to just right to nope-too short! I've had mine for several years, and they're still in good shape (elastic's good, etc.). I have one tankini top that's got all stretched out beyond usefulness, but it's I think 10+ years old - ones that are 5-6 years are still plenty good.

I love Lands End. I like how long they last me and I love being to mix and match the perfect top & bottom for me. The swim shorts are my favorites, too. I like the length options as well as the fit options.

I'm a big girl too and my weight has not magically melted away when I wanted it to either ! Lol Ya know what, I may be a big girl but I like to be active so screw not looking perfect in a bathing suit! I'm going to have fun with my kids at the beach. I love Land's End suits in plus sizes. I particularly love the board shorts. I'll never be skinny and I have very fair skin so they do double duty. I don't get sunburnt and I feel confident walking around in my board shorts and a tankini top with added support for the girls. We all can't be swimsuit models but we should all be able to have fun at the beach!

I don't have any specific shop advice - but I wouldn't be crazy frugal on the suit. I assume you're spending a fair amount on your Hawaiian vacation, I wouldn't buy a cheap suit just because you're not going to wear it a ton later and than be miserable on vacation. I'm not suggesting you buy a diamond crusted suit for the hell of it, but if you find a suit that's flattering and will enhance your enjoyment of your multi-thousand vacation, but costs an extra $50 - don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
Enjoy your trip - you'll find all sizes in Hawaii and people are way more interested in enjoying themselves in paradise than what size you are.

I've been looking at that exact one wondering how well it holds everything in place. Do you feel like it holds everything where it should be without too much jiggle?

Mod cloth.... cute retro look... There is one that I have been looking at there that I LOVE. Do you find the quality to be pretty good? This is the one I've been looking at. The reviews are pretty good, but there are several that say it's too thin in the back and that it's not colorfast, so I worry about it. I also worry a little that the fabric wouldn't hold everything in place. www.modcloth.com/shop/onepiece-swimwear/beach-blanket-bingo-one-piece-swimsuit-in-red-16-26

I bought one from Always for Me and am very happy with it. I have the bandeau style one piece. It says it's a swimdress, but the skirt part is short, not long, old lady granny looking. The skirt is sewn on the hips so you don't get the big floaty skirt while in the water. This bandeau style is super flattering, especially if you have even a bit of a waist. I'm close to the same size as you and always get compliments when wearing it. bandeau style

I had good luck a couple of years ago at jc Penney. All separate pieces. I got a halter top and a tank top, and then a brief type bottom, a skirt with underneath part and shorts. All mix and match and I think the 5 pieces ended up about $100 with coupons and sales. I have never worn a "two piece " before but loved being able to go to the restroom. Also it is easy to mix and match between sensible mom-looking swimwear and something cuter.
Good luck and have a great trip!

I've always bought my plus sized swimsuits from Kohls. They have a nice selection, they hold up well and are reasonably priced. I currently have a short skirt bottom in basic black and a floral print tankini top. I get lots of use out of it.

Another vote for Land's End. I bought two suits from there when we went to hawaii a few summers ago and wore them daily and was so happy and comfortable in them. Have fun!
