We are flying Southwest to NOLA. We haven't flown since it is easy to check-in with your smartphone. For the outgoing flight, it isn't a problem because I can check-in 24 hours in advance from my computer. When we are returning, we will be playing golf for 4 hours when we should be checking in. Our phones have so much glare it would be nearly impossible to see what I'm doing besides it would tick off the people playing behind me. So my question: can I have my DS check-in for us if I just give him our account numbers and passwords?
ETA: Thanks all ~ it has been ascertained that DS can check in for us!

I don't see why not. I'd ask him to do it.

My parents checked us in for our return flight when we were on a cruise. He'll just need the same information you'll need to input for your outgoing flight.

Absolutely. Just give him the confirmation/record locator number and your son can check both of you in.

Or you could pay the $25 ($12.50 per ticket) on just that leg for them to do the automatic check-in and you won't have to worry about it. That's what I do when I fly Southwest.

That's what I was going to say. Or else just yes, have your son do it. He just needs your confirmation number and how your names are listed on the ticket, not account numbers or passwords. Although you can give them to him if you don't trust me. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

It's been a few months but last time I flew, they sent me an email and it was just a couple clicks to check in. I think you could do it even on the golf course, just turn the screen brightness up. But really, you can do it in the car on the way to the airport, or in the parking lot, whatever. It doesn't have to be four hours in advance so although you could have your son do it, you don't need to.
If you didn't give them your email I guess it might be just a tiny bit more complicated.
I love my phone when traveling and I don't know how we existed without them! Of course, back then, you could pretty much just go to the airport and buy a paper ticket and walk onto the plane.

Without paying extra we want to be in at least the B group for boarding. DH hasn't flown since 2005 when all the new rules were put in place and he's never flown Southwest so he's kind of skeptical about not having assigned seats. I keep telling him it will be fine. He's not a happy flyer anyway. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

It's Southwest. No assigned seating. She has to check in 24 hours in advance or risk sitting in a middle seat next to the bathroom, with her DH a dozen rows away, also in a middle seat. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) On the other hand, Southwest lets you cancel at any time and keep the full amount of your ticket as a credit for the next trip. So I always fly Southwest. I have to change more itineraries than not, and United etc. were nibbling away at me, $100 a pop.

If you can check in 24 hours in advance why not do it the night before or in the morning before golf?

If you can check in 24 hours in advance why not do it the night before or in the morning before golf? On Southwest you need to do it pretty much exactly 24 hours to not get stuck with the middle seats... my guess is that she is playing golf 24 hours before she leaves.

We leave at around 2:30 and tee off at 1:00 the day before.

I am not certain that I understand the problem. It doesn't have to be done at any certain time. You could do it 20 hours or 12 hours or 10 hours or five hours before the flight. Or you could do it the old-fashioned way at the airport

Well, as other people have explained in this thread, it does have to be done at a certain time - exactly 24 hrs in advance - if they want to get a good boarding position on a Southwest flight.

Yup, Southwest does not assign seats, they assign boarding positions, and they assign them starting EXACTLY 24 hours in advance. I once had to check-in while walking along the Vegas strip! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) If you pay an additional $25 (I think that is the cost), the system will give you an automatic boarding pass with a good position. And you don't want to be in the "C" group because you probably will be sitting in a middle seat.

I guess that's what I don't fly Southwest! :-) I put up with it because they have a lot of flights out of my local airport, plus they usually have cheaper fares, good on-time record, and you can still check in two bags for free. The downside is the lack of assigned seating, plus no food service or movie.
