Wezee - keep us posted on your condition. I hope you are feeling okay.
Thanks for everyone's kind words. I feel like I hijacked her thread, but the OP was right: it's a serious situation.

Wow! I am so sorry. Can you please tell us what the symptoms were the led them to look at your heart? I heard my heartbeat in my ears the other night, I know weird right? I have been so tired since the first of the year and I had shortness of breath So, I made an appt with my Dr. We talked about my asthma and the change in seasons as a possible cause. She set me up for a few blood tests and a chest xray. Just as she was about to walk out of the room she said "let's just do an EKG" That's when she found that I had a left bundled branch block in my heart and that an ambulance had been called to take me to the ER. I immediately thought blocked it must be an artery. I was wrong, my heart was just so weak that the function in my left ventricle was blocked from working properly. Honestly I kinda felt foolish going in, even my DH was like "seriously you need to go in? I think you have just been in a funk, just push yourself to do more things you'll be fine" He feels SO BAD for telling me that. That's why I felt compelled to tell all of the peas. Most of us tend to just go on, despite not feeling well. Please don't do that, we have lost so many wonderful peas lately. Take care of yourself even when you don't think you are that sick. Had I not gone in the Dr. said I would not have lived more than a couple of more weeks. My heart just would have quit. As it is there is only a 30% chance that I will recover fully. I will most likely have to have a defibrillator implanted. Please Take my advise.

Your doctor sounds like a keeper. She literally saved your life. Don't let her go.

It's terrifying how something so "simple" as a cold can do so much damage. I have the symptoms you listed all the time, allergies, fluid in my ear, my BP being off kilter. I know it's not my heart, but I worry that someday it will be and will get ignored because I've felt it all before. Scary stuff.
I'm sorry it happened to you OP and hugs to Peabay as well.

Thank you for the PSA. I have a question though (for anyone). If it is a virus would going to the doctor do anything? Because every time I have gone to the doctor and it is a virus they say can't prescribe anything for it and to let it run its course. Would they catch something like that? Again - what happened to my mom. Went to the doctor on Tuesday, put on antibiotics. Called the doctor Thursday when she was feeling so much worse and they said: "give the antibiotics a chance to work." She died on Sunday. Unfortunately for us, she was home with my stepfather who wasn't well either. Neither of them realized how bad she was. She couldn't drive herself to the hospital and he has Parkinsons and can't drive either. By the time my stepbrother saw them on Sunday morning, she was too far gone. I talked to her every day and in 20/20 hindsight would've done things very differently. I thought she had the flu - we all did. So, I think if the doctor sends you home and you are no better in a few days, make a nuisance of yourself. Or get to the ER. If someone had hooked my mom up to an EKG they would've seen her heart issues and maybe could've saved her. I am so sorry peabay. I remember when your mom passed. wezee Get well!

Thanks for the psa! I'm one of those people who are practically dead before I go see a Dr. I'm going to need to change that. Hope you heal completely!

Hey guys just a PSA in Dec. I caught a really bad cold, it was just a bad virus. I ended up in the ER on Tuesday. The virus attacked my heart. I have heavy damage, my heart is at 25% capacity. They put me on meds and I have to wear an external defibrillator. I will know more in a month. There is a 60% I will need a defibrillator implanted, Please don't think it's just a cold that is taking a long time to go away! Sorry you have gone through this. Life vests are amazing, hopefully your EF improves enough to not need a ICD. Although it's not the end of the world if you do. I've had one well three since 2012. A friends 29yo daughter had a virus hit her heart last October and she ended up recovering enough not to need anything extra after a couple months in hospital.

So sorry to hear this--when I worked at the teaching hospital we had a 16 year old who had been living there a year with an LVAD waiting for a heart transplant. Finally they decided to move him to another metro area where Type B blood is much more common and he got a heart within a month there. It all started for him with a cold he couldn't shake...so awful! But last I heard of him was he was doing well, and his case is quite extreme.
I've also heard/seen near-complete recoveries, too. I wish you well!

I'm so sorry. I had a friend and her husband BOTH who had a cough they couldn't shake. They thought it was nothing. Both of them have died from it within days of each other. They were both healthy except the cough and in their 50s. Your PSA is very timely.
