Cardio myopathy is nothing to mess with. I tend to be one of those that thinks this is just a cold and there is nothing that the doctor can do for me anyways. So I wait until I am really sick before I go to the doctor. This is a very good PSA. Thank you for sharing your experience and I hope that you recover fully. My cousin has cardio myopathy and she was hospitalized at first with it and they were concerned that she was going to need a ICD, but she did have a pretty solid recovery and just has to visit her cardiologist once a year now. So, there is hope that you will have a good recovery as well.

Wow! I am glad you finally went in to get treatment and that they did an EKG. I also have a heart condition that may have been caused by a virus. I now have a pace-maker/defibrillator and am doing much better. I hope you continue to improve, but don't be afraid of needing a device.

{{{{ hugs }}}} I'm so sorry to learn this happened to you I have a friend who's 45 year old son experienced something similar. Minor illness/virus settled in his heart, unbeknownst to him, which damaged a heart valve which in turn threw a blood clot causing a stroke. He spent the winter recovering from the stroke. This past Tuesday, he had surgery to repair/replace the damaged valve. It happens, I think, more than we realize.

So glad you're okay!! But so scary! Don't feel bad about having the pacer either. I echo Donna and others. I have one too and i'm only 42. I got it at 35 even with a heart history but I got super sick too. Sometimes you never know. So glad you are okay. Do what they tell you and most important listen to your body and how you feel! Lots of hugs to you!

Similar happened to a good friend of OH's. He had bad virus, and just couldn't shake it off. He was exhausted all the time and went to the GP. She listened to his chest, and he said that her face fell a mile. She called an ambulance, and before he knew it he was having valve replacements. The virus had done significant damage. He is fighting fit now.
Hope you are soon back to normal.

I'm glad to hear that you're continuing to improve.
Your post as well as the other recent PSA thread are good reminders for people to seek help when they just don't feel right.

Wow. I'm glad you're getting better now. I feel guilty because I just told anxiousmom she didn't need to go to the doctor! Yikes! No worries, I am pretty sure it is just your run of the mill plague-I don't have any kind symptoms that I don't think aren't normal for a sore throat and whatnot. But if I did, this would certainly be the cautionary tale that would get me to the doctor.

Glad you are doing ok now. This really scares me because a few months ago I had a bad cold - sinuses were stuffed up, I had bronchitis and lost my voice. TMI: I was getting green gunk from my sinuses and chest, which I always had been told indicated was an infection. I couldn't get an appointment with my PCP so I went to Quick Care. The doctor told me that new guidelines regarding antibiotics indicate that they are not allowed to prescribe them until you have been sick for 10 days, with the exception if there is also a fever. I had to wait 10 days before following up with my PCP, so in the future I won't even bother seeing a doctor until I've been sick for 10 days. Now it looks like there's a chance an infection could damage my heart before those 10 days are up. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
