The Friday before we left for vacation I slipped on a wet floor at the mall and broke my wrist...ugh !! Now, almost two weeks in I have a question. How am I going to cut my fingernails?
I hate long nails but can't clip with my right hand because that's where I'm injured and I am terrified of the pain of cutting the nails on that hand. It is quite a conundrum!! Any ideas??

If you don't live with someone who can cut them for you, go get a manicure and the manicurist can.

I'm so sorry about your wrist! I hope you heal quickly! Seems like I know a lot of people with broken bones this summer!

How are you going to walk your Berner I'm sorry about your wrist I broke my wrist 2.5 weeks ago, am casted, and still manage to walk my Wheaten Terrier 2-4 miles a day. Walking the dog is the least of my worries. Washing my hair, that is a real challenge.

But I'm also hoping giatocj knows I was just trying to make her smile I'm sorry you broke your wrist too and I hope it heals quickly

But I'm also hoping giatocj knows I was just trying to make her smile I'm sorry you broke your wrist too and I hope it heals quickly Thanks! My Wheaten weighs 55 pounds and a pinch collar does nothing to discourage her from physically dragging me to chase squirrels, which she views as THE most deadly danger to the free world, and which she, and only she, can chase and stop (if only I would let her her). Never underestimate the persistent stubborn single-mindedness of terriers to hunt and chase. The larger ones, like Wheatens, can pull a human with little problem. (I was walking her when I broke my wrist, but still completed the last mile while wrenching my rings off my swelling hand, even though I pretty much knew it was broken, because at 3.5 years old she still needs her 2-4 miles a day or I pay).

You could ask your BFF or manicurist. I hope you heal quickly.

Thank you all!! I had thought about a manicurist and think i will try that path...I think that will be the least painful route since my boyfriend is a nail biter and the thought of him yielding clippers scares me

How are you going to walk your Berner I'm sorry about your wrist Dori, Tucker has been surprisingly well behaved for me since the accident, bless his heart! Normally if he just had the hint of a squirrel nearby I'd be hanging on with both hands yelling "LEAVE IT!!", but now a simple, calm "leave it, Tuck" is enough to keep him still. It is amazing. This reinforces my belief that animals are VERY intuitive and can sense when things just aren't "right".

And ours will heal...I have a whole new insight on accident victims who lose a limb and have to make such a life altering adjustment permanently. This is my first broken bone besides a toe several years ago. I am ashamed to say I am not handling it well at times

I get all my medical needs, including the treatment and casting for this wrist, taken care of at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. It is where all the military amputees from overseas combat come through. It is very humbling to see so many men and women coping with and adjusting to a variety of missing limbs and prosthetics. It really puts my piddly short arm cast into perspective. Now, that said, it is perfectly okay to vent about how inconvenient and uncomfortable your broken wrist is in your life. It really does stink!

elaine, have you tried to belly-wrap your leash or getting one of these? We are just finishing up dog training classes and the trainer showed us this trick. Someone in our class with a very large German Shepherd did the belly-wrap with their regular leash and told us it works like a charm. It's not mean, but the dog finds it uncomfortable enough that they don't pull. (Of course you can't do it on a dog that has just been spayed.)

Good Tucker Our GSD is all about the squirrels and thinks she can go up the tree to get them when dh is walking her. But if dd is walking her she will just perk her ears. I love how smart she is but wish dh would stop letting her get way with stuff like he obviously does. I think he thinks saying 'leave it' will hurt her feelings or something

I don't think he realizes the safety factor involved in teaching and using commands like that

Hope your wrist heals quickly! I'm going to try that belly wrap trick on my puller. She is 57 pounds of All-American (mutt ) that can pull me right off my feet.
