I always thought that "photo bombing" was when someone intentionally gets into your picture. But lately, I've seen people comment about a "photo bomber" when it is just someone who happens to be in the background, not even paying attention to the people taking a picture. What say the Peas?

The first one, intentionally done. But I have also heard people say it for anyone in the background too. They've just generalized the term.

Generalized the term? You mean they are making excuses for bad photography? No, it has now become a general term that means anyone who wasn't supposed to be in the photo, whether they deliberately stuck their head in the frame or were just walking past when the photo was taken. ETA: But the true meaning is when it is done deliberately.

Sometimes I realize I am unintentionally in the background of someone's photo, while they are taking a selfie or whatever, and then I will intentionally make silly faces or cross my eyes or something. A little surprise for them later when they see a larger version of the photo. Is that wrong? It's wrong, isn't it? I'm not sure I can stop.

Something unexpectedly in the background of a selfie. Not necessarily deliberate as it could be an animal.
Last year at Taylor Swufts concert I took a number of selfies of DD and I in stands before show started. Posted a couple goofy ones to FB.
Looking on a bigger screen later you could plainly see the young woman behind us in just her bra as she changed into her concert tee. Omg. Errible photobomb.

My best photo bomb story is in Disney World. I was taking a selfie with my little guy. We were smushed together and it turned out so cute. My older son said..."look at the guy behind you". He was staring over my shoulder giving us the "mean guy" look. He was bald and he looked like Mr. CLEAN.
Best Pic Ever!

It doesn't have to be intentional... but it's not just people in the back ground... its a photo bomb if who, or what they are doing, is remarkable in some way

I consider it when someone does it intentionally.

I consider it to be something done intentionally. Particularly when people use the term as a verb. If someone is photobombing, then they are intentionally inserting themselves or something else into a photo.

I just remembered this picture - this guy behind me must have been yawning or something, or he is a master.
