We opted to stay home for Spring Break this year. We should have gone on vacation. It is snowing with high winds, and we are currently without power, as a tree decided to fall on a power line nearby.
And also my kid started puking nonstop yesterday after school and her temp quickly jumped up to 102. Then this morning she wakes up and was bright red! She looked like she had a sunburn all over her body. We ran off to the pediatrician, and my kid has Scarlet Fever! Who the heck still gets scarlet fever!?!? She's on antibiotics, but still, what a terrible way to start a break from school!

It is a good thing you didn't have travel plans then.
We are just finishing spring break. It snowed two days, but we kept power.

I know it's Spring Break, but if by chance someone does come in maybe they can send out an all school blast to look out for it. It is contagious, correct?

My dd had scarlet fever 4 years ago, she was very sick. She never got over her strep throat so it turned into Scarlett fever. Has your child had strep lately ? lu

She has strep right now. I suspected it yesterday when the symptoms came all at once with the fever. Dr confirmed it today.

Poor thing! I hope she feels better soon. It's a good thing you didn't travel. And if she doesn't get somewhat better by Monday morning, I would call her ped and bring her in. She may need a different antibiotic. Scarlet fever is nothing to mess with; my DH ended up being in the hospital for 3 weeks when he was a kid because he was so sick.

I hope your daughter gets better soon. I had scarlet fever multiple times, our neighbor was the carrier and he never got sick. Take good care of her.

Treated with antibiotics? I wouldn't think that the school alert would be necessary

You know the history of scarlet fever is very interesting....probably not to you, right now, as you deal with a sick child!!!...but just the mention of scarlet fever in the 1930s would create a FEAR like no other...it was so deadly. My grandmother that I never knew, died from it. And it was something that usually effected children, not adults. My mom was three months old...when her Mother died from it. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

Yikes, not a great start to your week. hope things improve quickly!
DS had scarlet fever a couple years ago and I thought the same thing as you, but all it really is is strep with a rash. It's not some Little House-era disease that's been eradicated (which is pretty much what I thought before he got it LOL).

I actually started to panic yesterday at the doctors office and before I could get wound up he calmed me down and reminded me that it is just strep throat and that we do have antibiotics and that it's nothing like it used to be in Victorian and early settler days. But still, you don't hear of too many people coming down with it anymore. Although after all the googling I did on it yesterday it seems Scarlet Fever is on the rise again? So strange. Hopefully it clears up soon. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers guys!

It's not some Little House-era disease that's been eradicated (which is pretty much what I thought before he got it LOL). . Scarlet fever if untreated can become Rheumatic fever and that can be deadly. And even if not deadly it can cause permanent heart issues. My mother had heart issues her entire life from Rheumatic fever she had as a kid that came from strep>scarlet fever. Untreated Scarlet fever is no joke. Not 'just' a cold or virus that we can just wait out. You don't hear a whole lot about Rheumatic fever anymore because strep is so rarely left untreated. So while it's not 'eradicated' exactly it's still something that needs treatment. OP I Hope your DD is feeling better soon.
