One of my dd's and my ds were diagnosed with Influenza B last week. It took dd 5 full days to be over the fever - ds only 3 days (because he started Tamiflu the day after he got sick). DD had a cough but it wasn't horrible and it only lasted maybe 5-6 days total. DS is on day 6 and his cough is just horrible. And it really seems that it's knocked him on his butt, whereas dd didn't seem NEARLY as worn out as what ds does. DD's appetite was fine through the whole thing; ds has been living on mini saltine crackers and toast for the most part.
My question is - how long has the cough been lasting with this year's strain?

My 8yo tends to cough a long time after a respiratory illness anyway and coughed for 3 weeks after we had it. We had flu A.

MIL and her husband both had it about a month ago. Step-fil had the cough for quite some time.

I had the flu over Christmas. My doc said it was not unusual for the cough to linger six to eight weeks but after a few weeks you should go in just to make sure you're not getting pneumonia. It sucked donkey balls because I coughed for-freaking-ever. It finally got better the beginning of February - no kidding. I'm so sorry. Influenza is awful.

I'm a month out and I'm still coughing a bit, but much less. Plus, I'm still very tired. I'm sorry that your kids had to deal w/this. Oh, I was on Tamiflu, as well.

He hasn't had the cough for a full week yet so I'll give it a bit more time to clear up. He started perking up a bit later tonight so I'm hopeful that he's over the hump and will be feeling a lot better by mid-week. Thanks for the input ladies!!!

3 weeks with the cough for me. I have never been so sick in my entire life as I was with the flu this year. I could barely move for over 2 weeks. It was terrible.
((HUGS)) to your kids!

ODS, the only one of us who can't get a flu shot, didn't get it.

My son was diagnosed with the flu almost two weeks ago, along with step throat. He did get Tamiflu the next day. His cough hung on for a little over a week. I hope your son starts feeling better soon!

I'm on week 6 of the cough. I felt better after the initial 5 or 6 days but this cough is almost as bad as when I first got sick. Driving me nuts. And I'm so tired from not being able to sleep because of the cough. I feel fine other then the fact that I want someone to suction out my lungs!

DH, DS, and I all got it. For both DH and I, the cough lingered a long time.

I was sick for 10 days.. off work, sick!!!
The cough was the worst thing.
My daughter hasn't been able to shake the cough completely, and it has been a month.
I am taking her back to the DR tomorrow as she got home from a week at her Dad's and immediately started puking... and hasn't been able to even keep down ice chips... I just want her checked out again.
