So - there is a post about when is it too soon to quit a book but --
When do you think is too late to quit?
I'm about 1/2 way into a book - I usually like the author, I usually like the series and characters - but I'm just not getting into this one.
I have been known to trudge through the "rest" because of the initial investment -- and be glad
I have been known to trudge through -- and really hated myself for doing so
When so you think it is too late to quit a book that just isn't grabbing you?

Never too late. There are so many good books, why waste your time on something you aren't enjoying (unless it's required reading for a class)

In cases like this, I usually start skimming pages looking for parts that will interest me.  |

It's never too late ... My time is too valuable to waste  Sometimes you just want to give a book a good chance but if it doesn't work it doesn't work ... no regrets  |

I would start doing the quick skim too! Halfway through means I still want to know how it ends... |

Well, like I said in the other thread, life is too short to read bad books. I've "hung in there" and finished reading some lousy books, mostly because I spent the money. Now, if I have to plod through to get into a read, it's just not worth it and I give up, regardless of where I am in the book.

If you can put it down without wondering what happens then go ahead and do it. It's never too late.

I'm not one to have to finish a book just because I started it, so I'd say never.

It's never to late, but if I'm more than half in I'm more likely to just start skimming and get to the end than to quit the book altogether.

Life is too short to read a book you don't enjoy. Just put it down. If in weeks you are wondering how it ends then pick up again, if you don't think about it, you don't.

I think it is never too soon or too late to quit a book. If you are not enjoying it, don't waste your time.

I have abandoned many books over halfway through. Often it's not a conscious decision to abandon them - another book will catch my eye and I just never return to the boring one,

I used to force myself to finish every book I started. But life is short. Skip the book if you don't like it and find something you enjoy reading! |

Is this odd -- I've never considered "skipping to the end" -- and I've been reading for a LONG time!! LOL!! I guess that I've considered knowing the ending the "payoff" for getting there. Lord -- what must that say about me??!! LOL

I usually know after about 2 chapters if I want to continue on or not. I'm not a voracious reader any more, so I don't want to spend a lot of time on a book if it doesn't capture my interest. Having said that, I did have trouble with one book...Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. I love her books, but I had a real hard time getting into this one. But I kept on reading, and I'm so glad I did! I'm not sure when it finally grabbed hold of me, but by the end, I wanted it to keep going.
Right now I'm reading a book by Jodi Picoult - Mercy. It hasn't grabbed me, but I am still reading it and about halfway through. I usually read and read until I finish the book. This one...I'm content with just reading a chapter here and there. Sometimes, not even a whole chapter, maybe just a couple of pages. Then I go and do something else. I think the only reason I am keeping at it is because of the prologue. I want to know what made her sell all her husband's stuff! LOL!
