We have a new desktop and while my self-taught computer geek tried to move files from the old computer to a new computer, he had many problems. He has worked with computer all his career but he has been retired for several years and is 74 years of age - as I have told him we need someone's help because technology has past us by.
Just wanted to know if any one has had them come to their home and how much they charge? We need some files reinstall and some files restored - all my pictures.
TIA for the pros and cons on Geek Squad.
Does any one here work for Geek Squad or have family members there.

I've only used Geek Squad online and they have been awesome  If you have the coverage at Best Buy it is totally worth it  |

I have used them a couple of times, but I didn't have them come to my house I took my desktop into them. Both times was because of a hard drive crash. One drive was salvageable and turned out to only be the fan the other was not but they sold me a new hard drive and installed it for me.
Pros the guys are friendly
Cons it is a bit expensive
Like your fellow computer geek I can do most things myself so I knew what I needed and wanted..sometimes these guys act like you know 0 and won't say much to you..so you have to pull it out of them. I guess that's with all things service related..sometimes you get a bad person sometimes a good one.
You can call them for a quote if they don't have the price on their website.

I got a new desktop at the beginning of the year. I took my new computer in and they charged me $99.00 to transfer all my files. I personally have never had a problem with them.

leannec - thanks; a neighbor had told me how she calls them when her DH loses the e-mail and they help her online.
Dictionary - saw some prices online last week like $39.99 for diagnostic and we definitely need that.
DEX - that's exactly what we SHOULD have done - much less stress on DH and me.

When our old computer refused to turn on one day, we took it to Best Buy and the Geek Squad talked us through what they were going to do to get the old files off of it and then did it. We just had to get the new computer. I don't remember the price, but at the time I felt is was worth it.
