Hi I was in a drug store today that sells other stuff like clothing and giftware etc. It's a very nice drug store but it is still a drug store. They have one aisle of clothing. In the clothing section are 20 odd raincoats. Each one is $395 plus tax. These were heavy rubber raincoats. I have never seen a raincoat cost this much money. I thought wow that's gotta be some raincoat to cost $400. I had never heard of the brand before. My BFF had to take a second look because we had never seen a coat (reminded me of an Easter egg colour) cost that much before. I must not get out enough. Ha! www.vooberlin.com/stutterheim-stockholm-raincoat-dusty-pink#.VwW8uXv5qC4I did a bit of googling and called the store as it is dinner time and they aren't busy at this time of the evening. Barney's carries this brand. They are only $295 in the US. (ONLY!!!)

This thread is useless without pics. You know that.
Seriously, I didn't pay that much for a Burberry raincoat years ago. I cannot imagine a "rubbery" raincoat costing $400! You have got to go back and get the details!!!
I've seen a lot of really colorful raincoats like you describe but they are in the $40-70 range. Girls are getting them monogrammed and are pretty darn cute.

Is it a privately owned store-not corporate chain?
Judging by my friends, I'd suggest the owner wanted one of the items (or enough for her family) and needed to place a bulk order to get a good price.
Then they try to sell the extra items, usually something trendy, in their store. Usually they're successful.

Is it possible that the price tag was wrong? I'm thinking that drug store tags are most likely those little stickers that are printed in the store and then slapped on the paper tag? Maybe someone typed in the wrong number.

It's not an apartment sized dishwasher. It was a RAINCOAT. I have to be in that area tomorrow so I will take photos of the raincoats. I just find it weird. They have $5 and $10 giftware. That's not unusual. They carry some high end cosmetics. Nothing is as expensive as a $400 raincoat!

That's ridiculous. I like the pink color for sure but if I'm going to pay that much, I'll get a Burberry raincoat (I would never buy one of those either).

This was bugging me so I called the drugstore and asked the name of the brand. I then googled it and it is some brand that Barney's New York carries. They are $300 US so that $400 Canadian isn't impossible. I agree with Yubon Peatlejuice that if I want something so pricey I will get Burberry, too!

Perhaps this drugstore gets a lot of tourists who want quality items if they are drowning in a Pacific Northwest rainstorm?

Perhaps this drugstore gets a lot of tourists who want quality items if they are drowning in a Pacific Northwest rainstorm? That is a good theory, but there are no tourists in this residential area. There is nothing to see there at all. It is a medium priced strip mall. There is nothing ritzy about it at all. Maybe there are a lot of rich people who need $400 raincoats. There weren't just one or two of them either. I would say there were a good 12 or more! That is a lot of very heavy, rubber raincoats.

Thanks for the photo~ it would be a cute raincoat for my DD, but the model wearing it looks like she's not too sure about it. ETA- when I saw this post earlier today I thought for sure it was annabella that posted it for some reason. I pictured a little drug store in downtown Chicago (isn't that where she is?) with touristy things and expensive raincoats.

Lol... way too much money...that said... I pretty much live in rubber boots when I'm not wearing winter boots and spend a lot of time in rain coats. I kind of like the colour! It better be totally waterproof though!

If I'm paying that much for an item of clothing I want to look better in it than that model does...she looks shapeless!

That coat is not my taste at all. No way I'd spend that much on that. I have a hard time spending $50 on a rain coat, because I would hardly ever wear it, even though we get a lot of rain.

I gotta say, that is a really cute coat! IF (big IF) I had the money, I'd probably buy it. But...since I don't I will have to wear my raincoat that I got from Columbia. It's pretty nice & the normal tag on it was $350, but I got an employee discount & paid $138. I normally don't spend that much, but being in the NW & I did purchase what I thought was a waterproof jacket for $49 was not waterproof at all. The jacket from Columbia keeps me dry.

There was probably a minimum order for wholesale.
I'm content with my wal-mart raincoat I got while in college in the early 90s. Nice & heavy and still works fine.
Not that it rains here...
(I would secretly like a pink one though lol)

that coat isn't even 39.50 cute
it's shapeless and utilitarian looking and it's not even a bright cheery color

"Stockholm Raincoat"? Is that when your raincoat steals your money and abuses your pride, and yet you still feel compelled to wear it? The model looks indignantly displeased. that's some funny shit right there!
