Any NYers excited that it is going to feel like our primary vote will matter?
From watching the news, NY should be a big fight on both sides. I'm so used to everything being decided by the time the primaries get to us, I'm kind of excited for it. I'm sure I'll be sick of the ads by then, but it is nice to feel like I can actually make a difference. I honestly don't remember a time when it wasn't over already by us, but I wasn't old enough to vote in a primary until 92.

YESSSSS!! Its so funny. I was talking to DH at the beginning of primary season and I specifically said to him "NY primary never matters. Its not even till April and by then we know who is getting nominated".
Fast forward to today and the first thing they were talking about on the news was how big April 19th is going to be.

As a NY pea, do you think it's weird the media has been saying NY is Hillary's home state? I know that's where she lives and she was a senator, but isn't her home state Illinois? I think it makes sense to say it's Bernie's home state because he was born in Brooklyn. Sorry, off topic, but I was just curious.
ETA: When Mitt Romney gave his speech about Trump in Utah, I kept seeing reports that Romney was giving a speech from his home state. I know he has homes everywhere, but I think he grew up in Michigan.

I'm completely uninvolved but, honestly, I'm excited for you too.

Hillary hasn't lived in Illinois since she was a child - I'd consider Arkansas more her home state than Illinois and certainly the fact that she's lived in NY for 15+ years and was elected Senator from there would qualify it as her curent home state. Similarly, I think Romney has lived in Utah for 20ish years. Bernie Sanders has spent his adult life and political career in Vermont. I've only lived in my current state 10 years, but it's still my home state. I guess you give more weight to ones birth state than I do - I put more weight on where people have chosen to live as an adult.

I've lived in other states, but I've always called New York my home state. I consider Bernie Sanders more a New Yorker than Hillary. She only ended up in New York because there was going to be a vacant seat in the Senate and she wanted it.

She only ended up in New York because there was going to be a vacant seat in the Senate and she wanted it. Exactly. She was a carpetbagger that year the seat opened up. There was one other state, Virginia IIRC, that had an open senate seat that year. She flipped a coin and came to New York. It was pretty big news here because she had to establish residency so she bought a house that sat empty for awhile and a couple of other Clinton- esque things that made the NY papers.

I have no dog in this fight, since I'm not registered with either party, but I do think it's cool that NY's primary finally matters! Hillary was in my area on Monday and while I haven't seen Bernie actually coming to Albany, there are a ton of rallies planned.
I am a bit tired of seeing the "Feel the Bern" slogans everywhere. It's kind of creepy.

California kinda feels the same way. President Obama will be in Los Angeles tomorrow for more fundraising.

And I think at the time he ran for president he spent more time in NH than anywhere. He did vote in the primary in Utah so I guess that is where he calls home these days.

refugeepea - I think because she was a NY Senator and has a home here, we can call her "ours." Bernie is from here (not that he could ever deny it once he opened his mouth!), but Vermont can certainly call him their own. I wasn't raised in NY, either, but it has been my home for 25 years - I certainly know more about what's happening here than about what's happening in my birth state.
