The traditional way of making matcha is by adding a bamboo scoop of powdered matcha tea to a tea bowel. You add about 2 tbsp of water and use a whisk to make it frothy. I bought some matcha powder and really don't like it. Any suggestions on making it taste better? You may need some sickly sweet Japanese candy to go with it. That is how matcha is supposed to be enjoyed. Do you have a Japanese store near you? I would ask for "wagashi" or "manju" or "azuki". Anything with an "anko" centre will be good. "Anko" is sweet bean paste and it softens the taste of the matcha. I don't drink matcha without candy, but then again I am old school. If you have a Chinatown or a Chinese grocery store they will have something that will work, too. A piece of chocolate isn't the right kind of sweetness to go with tea. Neither would be an Oreo cookie. That said, if an Oreo works for you then go for it!

I have to admit I am a big fan of "wagashi" which means traditional Japanese candy or sweets or something. It is really delicately made and quite delicious. I love it! My generosity of spirit is lacking believe me. My home life is falling apart!

alexa11 I don't know whether it is in the refrigerated section because I do my grocery shopping online. My guess is that it would be with other iced tea beverages or organic cold beverages. Let me know if you find it!

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but one of the reasons people may not like the flavor of green tea is that they over brew it. Green tea is delicate. It's different than black tea or oolong or Mate which you brew with boiling water for 3-5 min. If you do that to green tea, it's going to taste bad. Most green tea is best brewed at a lower temperature and for a shorter time. Once I started brewing with 175 degree water for about 1.5 minutes (then remove the tea infuser or teabag) it started tasting much better. Some green teas are best brewed for less than a minute. Try it and see what you like. To adjust the water temp if you don't have a kettle where you can control the temp, add one or two ice cubes to boiling water and then brew the tea. You can usually get multiple steepings out of teas. Try it and see if it makes a difference for you.

That is what makes it even more admirable.

Like mama2three, don't over brew, or it gets bitter. The same with most herbal teas. And if you are frugal like my Grandmotger- don't expect to use the bag multiple times. All of this goes out the window if you use loose leaf on a thermos like old school Chinese.

I don't love tea. But boy do I love me a green tea latte! I'm feeing justified as we've learned a bit of sweet is what green tea needs! Validated and enabled! Woohoo!!
The Trader Joes green tea latte mix is okay. I've tried some matcha brand off of amazon but it was just meh, not right. I'd love to drink tea just tea but it isn't palatable for me without the milk and sugar.
