DD is a junior so we are a bit behind on the whole college visit process. Many of her friends have already been to several but she has been having a difficult time deciding on a program of study. Finally narrowed it down so we were doing some online research yesterday about colleges with graphic design programs. Happened to see that Auburn's College of Architecture, Design, and Construction was hosting an information session and tour - tomorrow! - and DD is on spring break so she and DH decided to go. A little spur of the moment but seize the opportunity, right?
Any Auburn alumni have any advice for them? Places they should see, where they should eat lunch, how to make the most of their day...

You really aren't behind. My ds made his first visit in November of his junior year, but that was more so we could see what a college visit entailed. Most of his peers didn't start visits until the spring of junior year or even the summer following junior year.

My son didn't start making a list until his senior year. Maybe that's a boy thing. Hope she enjoys her visit!

Have her check out Moore College of Art & Design. They have a graphic arts program. The school is in the heart of Philadelphia. My niece graduated from there. Supposedly it's a great school.

We did a couple college visits during my daughter's junior year and then a couple more in the summer. She went on her last one in October of her senior year and that's the school she ended up attending. I recommend that you eat at the campus cafeteria on every visit if it's open. A lot of schools will give you free passes to try it out. They'll usually give you coupons for the school book store too. We enjoyed visiting colleges - a really nice way to spend time with your kid.

Although she has been "touring" my alma mater every summer since she was little, and she is now a freshman there! But we visited about 5 schools her senior year. My best friend and I were just talking today about how our daughters (also juniors) seem to think college is still 5 yrs. off and have no thoughts on college visits.

My daughter actually attends University of Arkansas, but we visited Auburn (along with about 12 other colleges) when she was looking.
They have to go to Toomer's Corner (Intersection of College Street & Magnolia Avenue). Lots of Auburn history right there. And they should go in Toomer's Drugs and eat (or at least have a Lemonade)

Make sure that she goes by the welcome center and fills out the proper paperwork so the school has a record of her visit. I'm sure the school of architecture will have her fill out paperwork, but I'd want to make sure the admissions office was aware she attended the event.
I've heard that some schools will check to see if an applicant has made an in person visit when making admissions decisions, because it shows that the applicant is serious about attending the school. My husband took my son on a visit to his dream school and when they returned home, I found the visitor's form in his jacket pocket. He forgot to turn it in. His high school counselor had him e-mail the admissions office and tell them how much he enjoyed the visit, so they would know he was there. I don't know if the e-mail made any difference, but he was accepted.

Aww, what an exciting time for her! My dad went there way back in the day. I have a picture of me as a toddler with a "I'm a little Auburn Tiger" on it.

So has she been accepted at colleges and you need to do visits this month? Or is she staying home and commuting to a local school? National decision day is May 1

Thanks all - you've made me feel better and that we're maybe not so behind. I got that impression because I know many of her friends have already been on several visits and this is her first. She did recently attend an information session on the University of Missouri's school of journalism but it was held in a local hotel conference room so we're not counting it as an official visit. Since she's leaning away from journalism at the moment I'm not sure we'll follow up with a campus visit there.
T have been thinking about DH and DD all day and wondering how it is going! All I've heard so far, from DH, is that the campus is beautiful. I did tell them before they left that they should eat lunch on campus if possible. Great suggestion!

WAR EAGLE!!
My oldest son graduated from Auburn in 2014. He loved it there! The campus is absolutely gorgeous and our whole experience through his four years was great.
