I thought I could get some help from all you teachers out there. A friend of mine is starting her first-ever teaching job next week, and I'd like to put together a little gift basket for her. She is going to be teaching high school English if that matters. Thanks!

Expo markers, post its, pens & pencils, etc. Basic office supply stuff...or a gift card to Walmart,Staples, etc. and something more personal. A roll of quarters for the vending machine would be nice...does she drink coffee or tea? Supplies for those would be good also. Or maybe something like a manicure or spa gift certificate for when she's a few weeks in and needs to get rid of some stress.

Ask her if she's limited on how much paper she can use. She might need copy paper.

She will need to build a multi-level classroom library. How about a gift card to Half Priced Books?

I suppose it would be in poor taste to include a bottle of tequilla or valium?

Starbucks/Dunkin' Donuts gift card Expo markers (if she will have a whiteboard in her room) A memo pad with "From the Desk of Ms. _______" printed on the pages Colored ball-point pens for correcting papers (some teachers use red; others use green or anything-but-red) A pretty lanyard (maybe beaded, if you do such things?) for her ID A durable cup with a lid for coffee or water, whichever she usually keeps at hand

Maybe a nice thermal cup she can keep at school for hot drinks. That's really nice thing for you to do for your friend. Good luck to her.

I suppose it would be in poor taste to include a bottle of tequilla or valium? I was gonna say wine ... If she's well-supplied at school, a TpT gift card might be nice. Especially as a first year teacher, you're always looking for lesson ideas.

-iPoint pencil sharpener and a pack of Dixon Ticonderoga pencils - the set will cost about $30+ depending on how many pencils you buy but in 18 years of teaching, I've never found a better combo -bright copy paper - it's expensive, so it's a luxury for me. I like to print project info and important information on bright paper -white copy paper - never have enough -post-its in different sizes, flags, note pads -I love the idea of a TpT gift card -apple-theme mug -just kidding

Wow! Thanks for the ideas! I knew I could count on you all!
So many ideas, I don't know where to begin now. LOL I was not planning any apple items. I was definitely planning to include a bottle of wine. I never thought of copy paper.
What is TpT?

TpT is "Teacher Pay Teacher" - it's a great website where teachers can sell items they've created - tests, worksheets, unit studies, power points, etc. and other teachers can buy them!

You already got great suggestions.
Giftcard to Staples, OfficeMax, Walmart were my first thoughts.
Definitely a g/c to a book store or used book store.
You are a great friend for thinking of her.
