To reference the diabetic thread, a glass of milk is considered a snack by itself. A glass of 1% milk has about 100 calories, 8 grams of protein and 12 carbs. Balance, wise, that's a good snack. And sadly, that is a snack and all you would get if you were me. And I would still be hungry. Luckily, I have issues with milk, so I'll stick with my Boursin cheese and mini peppers. Mmmm boursin!

I don't think of chocolate milk as a snack, it's more like dessert. I also don't think of cookies as a snack, those are dessert too. Haven't made it home to ask yet, but I think this is what dh thinks too, it's a dessert and he has after dinner but before bed.

Growing up, chocolate milk was an occasional beverage option for us kids. When DD was little, I treated it the same way. Then on Blues Clues, there was an episode where they had to figure out what snack everyone wanted, and someone chose chocolate milk for a snack. I decided to see if DD would fall for it and she did. That's how it became a snack in our house.
I personally am not a fan of chocolate milk or hot cocoa (and when I thought about it, hot cocoa would have been a snack/sweet treat by my standards so it makes sense for cold chocolate milk to be also), because I don't find it filling or long lasting. Fruit or cheese works better for me. But if the kids ask for it, I allow it sometimes.
Of course, my Blues Clues watching baby is about to turn 13, so she can make her own cocoa or walk over to Starbucks on the way home from school for a cup if she wants, so me allowing a glass of chocolate milk is kind of moot at this point.

Six glasses of milk a day sounds like something out of a 1960s health film, or Milk Producers infomercial.

Sometimes for a snack, I get a drink from Jamba Juice. I can see chocolate milk as a snack too. I am a little hungry, but don't feel like eating/chewing. Chocolate milk is not too far away from a milk shake.

I was raised with my dad saying," milk is a food not a drink." In fact he probably still says it. Lol

I also don't think of cookies as a snack, those are dessert too. I agree. This whole discussion is predicated on the assumption that we all define "snack" in the same way. And that's not really the issue. Chocolate milk has nutrients and calories. Those get factored in to your daily intake no matter what you call the intake.

I don't mind an ice cold glass of milk but I don't drink it often. I don't even buy it unless (A) I need it for cooking/baking or (B) I know there will be chocolate cake in the house or brownies.
