DD got a job -- woohoo!! She graduated from college last May and has been living/working in the city where she went to school (a little over an hour from home). She had a nice internship her junior and senior year and stayed on with them after graduation. She likes it but it's not something for the long term. She has been applying for jobs like crazy and FINALLY got one.
Last summer, she spent about 3 weeks in Colorado and fell in love with it. She didn't want to come home and decided she needed to find a job there. Well, she did and will be moving 1800 miles away from home in about 2 weeks! I am beyond excited for her and so proud that she set a goal and achieved it but I'm sad that she will be so far from home. We have so much fun together and it's going to be quite an adjustment not having her close enough to spend a day together now and then or not have her just show up because some of her friends are home for the weekend.
Fortunately, we have relatives with whom she is very close in the area where she will be working so she won't be alone in a strange place.
Do any of you Colorado folks have any advice for a young woman moving to your beautiful state? She will be about 1 1/2 hours north of Denver.

It's bittersweet, isn't it? Congratulations to your dd!
My dd moved 1400 miles away and now has a dd of her own...it's so hard being so far away.

How exciting! Is it Ft. Collins? She will love it! Even if location is off, Ft Collins will be familiar to her. Lots to do on the front range and in the foothills. If it is Estes Park keep it to yourself as I'll die of jealousy.

My dd just moved 2100 miles away as well, with her dh and 4 of my gc. I am a little sad as well!

Congratulations! That's wonderful that she found a place that she loves and got a great job there. That's pretty much our goal for our children, to graduate and get a good job and to be happy. You must be so excited for her! Sounds like you did a great job raising your daughter to be so independent and ready to take on a new city. Of course it is still hard when our sons/daughters move far away (for the parents). My husband used to spend a lot of time in Pueblo for work, and he loved Colorado!

1.5 hours north is almost to wyoming. I'm assuming she will be in Fort collins which would about an hour away (of course she could be in Wellington). I grew up there and live only about 30 min away now.
Let me know if there are any questions I can help with.

My husband's young cousin moved there for a couple of years. I only wish I had visited more while she was there. Beautiful place! She lived in Aurora and worked in Denver.
Congrats to your daughter on her accomplishments!

Congrats to your daughter!
My daughter is moving to Denver this summer for grad school and likely will stay there because they love it there. We too have family there in Colorado Springs so I have some relief in knowing that she has some backup.
It's going to be so hard to let go even while I'm still so excited for her. At least I get to do a long farewell as im driving out with her from Maryland.

The job is near Granby but she will be in Estes Park fairly regularly (please don't die ).

You must be so proud of her. I admit, though, I'm a bit selfish and I hope my kids don't move too far so I understand how this might be hard for you. Hugs.

Just FYu, the road from Grandby to Estes closes often late August to early September and won't reopen until mid-late may (sometimes not until June). So Estes is close in the summer, but over 2 hours away during the winter.

I think the part of her job that will take her there is a seasonal thing. Not sure though. Good to know. Thanks.

Ahh... those mixed emotions! I am still feeling them. My 18 yo dd moved out to dance with a ballet company at the end of December. She's living about 600 miles away, on her own. It's exciting for her and I am proud of her. I also miss doing things with her and just hanging out. Granted, our hanging out time was limited to the late evenings when she'd get home from her long commute and we've replaced that with either messaging or a phone call most nights.
Congrats to your dd!

Wrong side of the mountains for me but it is beautiful, great hiking and outdoor activities are close. You brought me a lovely but foggy memory though of camping at Lake Granby as a young kid. We had a great uncle who lived/camped/something there. Will she have a car? Make sure it can handle winter, that she knows how to handle driving in winter and if she isn't up to the lingo on winter roads help the girl out. She needs to know what it means that the road is closed for winter (i.e. road to Estes) or when the road is closed because of winter (winter storm). If you aren't from that kind of elevation just prepare her to give herself some time to acclimate. She's young so it might not be that bad for her, but sea level to 7500 feet is a change! Those are my old lady tips of the day!

She is used to winter driving but nothing like CO. Fortunately, she will be near relatives who will help her learn the ropes. She is a little concerned about being in the middle of nowhere. She's used to being able to go out with friends after work and that's just not going to happen out there. It will be an adjustment, for sure.

My DD and her family moved to Parker CO almost two years ago. It's hard, believe me, it's hard but I am proud of her for being willing to make the move. Except for college, she lived either with us or about a mile away. We were very close. We are close now but a different kind of close. I miss her a lot more than she misses me but children need to sprout wings. It's all good.
And I LOVE Colorado. It's breath taking.

I don't know what state your daughter is coming from, but I'd take driving in snow over freezing ice storms in other states that turn the road to black ice! It can get slick but road crews are generally on top of things and salt the roads often if you aren't too rural.

She's been living in Northeast PA so she has experienced driving on snow, ice, black ice and potholes big enough to swallow her car whole!
