I'm a walking "Don't" for the back of Glamour on most days but now I'm just a hot mess. I had foot surgery and I'm finally out of the boot. I can wear shoes! But... Can I?? I am to wear sneakers or very supportive shoes.
Those don't exactly go with my professional dress. I have no clue what to wear to work tomorrow. I've never been able to tolerate ballet flats and now I can barely get my foot into them. I could wear my running shoes with my dress, but I'll feel stupid. I have slacks but again, what shoes?
Should I wear one dress shoe and one sneaker? Balance is off and my hips kill me (8 weeks in the boot. I'm over that!) I have some black Crocs but they really aren't supportive enough. I have some black sporty Mary Janes which i could wear with my long slacks and nobody would really notice but they are like on the support.
Any thoughts? I did spend 4 hours shoe shopping yesterday and my sneakers were good. I can't find any all black sneakers though. And what to wear with a dress? I think this would be easier if I could just wear my Vionic flip flops but you know it is still snowing!

wear sneakers and just smile and say foot issues if anyone asks....don't worry so much about it. buy cute socks and go for it.

I would just wear the sneakers. Comfort over fashion until you fully recover. And definitely don't wear two different shoes; that's just asking for more problems down the road. Though I might not be the one to ask, I used to have to "dress up" for work, and would often pull out my workout shoes and put them on with the "intention" of having to walk to the warehouse, but mostly I did it because I didn't want to wear my heels any more that day.  |

Where do you need the support?
You can get all black sketchers ( or all brown )but not sure if that's what you need. I have 3-4 pair of sketchers go walk and sketchers memory foam that look shoe like that I wear to work. Just avoid the bright color sporty ones. Not sure if they are enough support though ( and probably not fashionable )
Clarks are supposed to be very supportive shoes and they have many business like styles but they don't ever fit me right so I can't vouch personally for them

I would just wear slacks and tennis shoes, and if anyone is rude enough to say anything about it, tell them you're recovering from surgery and that's all you can wear. At least you're finally out of the boot! Yay for that!  I still have two more months to go with mine, and I have at least one dressier function coming up to attend before then. My sister offered to Bedazzle my boot when she was here... Maybe I should have let her!  |

If you search "dresses with sneakers" on Pinterest you'll find umpteen ideas, and where most are pretty casual, there are some looks that look pulled together enough for work, especially since you have a foot injury.

I'd go with whatever your doctor recommends. If it's sneakers, wear sneakers. Healing correctly is the most important thing.

I'd probably go with pants. If your workplace is casual, maybe a maxi with sneakers.

Wear what you need to. People at work know you had foot surgery and will assume whatever you wear is part of recovery.

Been there... Post foot surgery, post boot, couldn't wear what I really wanted. I just wore my tennis shoes all the time. I was just happy to be in shoes! I spent 21 weeks of 2014 in that dang boot.

Yes, already completed this task. Many of the shoes aren't what I have that work for me. I loved the ones with Vans (or like Vans) but those shoes do not offer enough support and I can't get them over my incision. I guess I need the taller toe box. But thank you for the suggestion. Support is I believe mostly tied to stability. I need the arch support and metatarsal support but need them to be off of the big toe joint which is not yet all the way healed. Sketchers -- I found a pair that would totally work - don't come in my size. Puma has a similar pair but they are too narrow. I do have a pair of brown lace up Clarks - I will dig those out of the closet! I forgot I had them so thanks for saying that. Go with the bedazzle! LOL! I think I will miss my boot just because it made it easy. Nobody expects two matching surgical boots! Two more months- good luck! I was in a boot for 3 months 2 years ago. I broke the foot and the bone wouldn't heal. That sucked. This time it is only 2 months. My work place is not casual. In fact, they just sent out very firm guidance about expected dress. Had that not come out, I think my anxiety about this would be a lot less! I know it is what it is and I need to heal. Thanks for brainstorming with me. |

I've been in tennis shoes for almost the entire school year, since my tibia/knee repair. I hate wearing them with my slacks and haven't been able to wear any of my skirts or dresses, but I just don't know what else to wear.

first place, your choice of footwear is being dictated by health and disability, so the employer can't or probably wouldn't hassle you about it. second, just read the society pages in san francisco, and there was a note about a very high end charity function..2 women in high heels, the rest in sneakers and flats...so you are rocking a new fashion trend!!

After I had ankle surgery, I bought an all black pair of sneakers (like sketchers) and they were fine. You really need to go for comfort at this stage of your recovery. I wore them with black pants and honestly you couldn't tell that I was wearing something different. I've just bought my daughter some lace up Sketchers in all black for work so you can definitely get them.

I've been buying Fila tennis shoes at Kohl's or Costco because they come in wide widths and they have worked for me (my surgery was also on that big toe joint and it was really hard finding shoes that wouldn't hit right where the biggest spur was). The last two pairs I bought were black with teal and dark gray with purple. If I switched out the loud laces for black ones it wouldn't be all that noticeable. I have a pair of black sandals that I bought last summer for a wedding that has wide elastic straps, and they are a similar heel height to the boot so I think when I have to go to my upcoming event I'm going to wear that sandal on my good foot and hopefully it will somewhat disguise the fact that I have the boot on the other foot, LOL. What it won't disguise is the stupid knee scooter that I still need to use for another month anytime I have to be up and around a good bit. Ugh. Maybe if I just stay sitting most of the night I can leave the scooter in the car.  |

Skechers makes some shoes in what they call "relaxed fit" and they are not as tight of a fit as most of their shoes. They go up to a size 12 Women's in those, if you go directly to the Skechers site. I don't know what size you need, but the toe box is roomier. I know when I had foot surgery and got out of the ortho shoe for that, my foot was still swollen and I needed wider shoes for a while.
