I typically use an iPad for work and they recently gave me an HP Spectre2 to try out instead. I have not used it much but tonight tried to turn it on and it started making a horrible noise. Promptly turned it off and it is still making the noise (about 15 min later). Won't turn on again. I charged it Friday but didn't use it and I haven't turned it on since. Any ideas on how to make it stop and what is causing the noise in the first place? My family thinks it is going to blow up.

It might be the fan. My DH has a desktop computer that sounds like a plane coming in for a landing. Do you have an IT department you can take it to so they can troubleshoot?

I'm not sure if it has a fan. I don't know if it is considered to be a tablet or a laptop or what. I just know I want the noise to stop! I emailed IT but of course haven't heard back. I work remotely so would need to talk to them over the phone in the morning.

I have a Spectre I got custom built 2 years ago. It was NOT cheap and I have been really disappointed with how many issues it's had. I had to send it in for warranty work twice in the first year and I was able to fix the rest myself. So no real advice but I wouldn't hold out hope for the noise to magically fix itself.

That isn't too encouraging. We have had problems with the program we use but I personally think it is the program, not the iPads. The company is trying to minimize those problems so are testing out new tablets/laptops and this is what they came up with. So far I am not that impressed. It looks fancy, but seems to be a lot less user friendly than the iPad, doesn't fit on my lap like the iPad (which is important when I am going to people's homes where there often is not a table available), and the screen is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough.
