because it was for one of my students who is 13 years old and will die of osteosarcoma. He is the sweetest, smartest, kindest, gentile-ist kids you'd ever have the pleasure to meet. He and his family found out late last week that despite all their efforts, the osteoscarcoma (which I realize I'm spelling incorrectly) has returned after being in remission for six months and they have exhausted all the possible treatments and clinical trials. He's had a rough six months since starting the new school year. All the treatments, the loss of his right lower leg, malnutrition, you name it, he's gone through it. My heart aches for his family. I taught his older sister and love this family so much. I just can't imagine the agony they are going through knowing that it's over. They fought the good fight, but they've lost the war. I just needed to get it out there. I can't stop thinking about my two healthy, active 12 year old boys and thinking "By the grace of God go I". It can happen to anyone and it happened to the least deserving child I know. Hold your babies close. Cancer sucks!

It really does suck. So badly. I was speaking with his mom at the beginning of the year. He was in remission and I was excited hoping I could take him to Quebec City with us this year (we do the trip every 2 years). She was really hopeful he could come as he had been in remission. Unfortunately, next week I'll be in Quebec City with 89 students and he'll be in hospice. I just can't imagine it. I only hope that the money donated helps with his care. His mom's insurance won't cover one of the medications he needs to keep him comfortable and out of pain while in hospice. The GoFundMe was set up for that and living expenses. I only wish I had enough money to buy him a clean bill of health.

I think the only thing more devastating than getting a cancer diagnosis is finding out there is no further possible treatment. I'm sad for your student.

We just lost a 15 year old in our school to osteosarcoma. It's just heartbreaking. I'm sorry you have to go through this too.

Thanks everyone.
It's just a sad situation all around.
I appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers for my wonderful student.
I take comfort in your kind words. I hope I can be there for his friends who I teach. I just know that this is going to crush them. He's supposed to attend one of their Bar Mitzvahs next month. I hope he's well enough to attend.
Thank you all, again.

I am so sorry for that sweet child and his family. Another dad we met at the hospital also had a daughter that went home on hospice care and passed away a few weeks before Phoebe. Before we all left the hospital he said that when he saw other kids leave the hospital he always assumed that they were going home because they were getting better, but that is just not the case,
Peace and strength to him, his family, and all who love him.

This is the disease that took my dd's best friend's mother. It's evil. I'm so sorry for that young man and his family. What a horrible thing to go through.
