You definitely shouldn't help their business for free with your photos. They should have at least offered you some free product. But glad you asked them to pay you for your photos. Yea I did end up asking for money, first time I have ever asked for payment. I am nervous about what they will say, and nervous about the outcome... my husband keeps saying it is a good sign the longer we go. We will see..

Hmmm....do you think they might just copy your ideas and take their own photos? Or just tape up different products and take photos?

I hope not, and I would look into recourse if that happened. I met the gentleman I am dealing with at CHA (Craft and Hobby Mega Show), so I would hope that he feels I am a "real" person and respects the business end of it. I will keep you posted! I am excited at the prospect! Jennifer

Maybe you should follow up tonight, so when they come in, in the morning it is at the top of their email (sort of). But then what do I know about dealing with companies in this situation.

Well I just heard back.. no money in the marketing budget.
I am so disappointed that I actually shed a couple tears, I am sooo bummed.. I was really excited and hoping for this!
So, where do I go from here - do I respond to them and or just leave it be??
I am hoping this disappointment passes, I was really excited.
Thanks for all your support!

I need advice.. should I reach out and offer a lower rate or should I just walk away and leave well enough alone?
I am not sure what to do!

No $$ in the budget, how convenient. I would walk away and say no go.

I would deny doing business with them. They don't value your work but they were happy to take advantage of you. That's a shortsighted move on their part.

I think you might have made a mistake by posting about this on the internet before finalizing your deal with the company. From what I understand, the craft industry is pretty small and a lot of people who are in the industry probably know about Two Peas, so I wouldn't be surprised if the company was aware of your post. Most companies like to keep their business dealings private, so I wouldn't be shocked if they ended negotiations with you after you posted on Two Peas.
I think you are very creative and I'm glad I've discovered your blog.

Here is the reply I received:
'Sorry for my late reply. I was out of town. Currently we don't have budget for this marketing. Thank you for your offer.'
I have no idea any further than that.. I am NOT surprised over all though - I suspected they wanted it free the more I thought about it.
This whole thing is a learning experience for me, and after consideration I am happy they wanted my stuff to begin with.
So, I am going to leave well enough alone, and move on - albeit a little sadder that people will not see my work at trade shows but happy that I was even considered.
Tomorrow is another day, and I never know the opportunities that await me.
At least that i what I am telling myself.

No money in the marketing budget, so how about payment in their product? In actually surprised that wasn't offered to you in the first place!

Blogging is fun but it is important to have a thick skin. Most of the armchair quarterbacks do not put a lot of thought into what they post, & totally don't think of you, the blogger is an actual person. Also, you don't know who is reading your blog at any given time.

I am learning to take rejection and that some people will not understand what I am doing, and that is OK!
