Have you considered something else besides a trip ? Split the money up - half for the family to use on something fun, and divide the rest four ways so each of you can buy something fun and frivolous. Just a suggestion.

If you drove into Canada - you could do the Okanagan area in British Columbia lots of fun in the sun to be had there. Then over to Alberta you could do Jasper and Banff National Parks. Drive the Icefields Parkway, I couldn't recommend that dive enough. If anyone likes dinosaurs you could head over to Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller (and see the Hoodoos) or Philip J Currie Museum near Grande Prairie. Sylvan Lake has outdoor waterslides. The Calgary Stampede is on from July 8-17. You could hit up Radium or Fairmont Hot Springs. You could drive back home through Montana and Idaho. we did that....it is amazing. Also Lake Louise, Glacier NP, Johnson Canyon. We did it for less than $5000, too, and we drove from Texas.

I think it depends on how long you have to vacation. If I had a 2-3 weeks I'd do a cross country drive in a rental and see as much of the country as I could, then fly back, or vice versa. If only a week that limits what you can do. This would be me! I would love to travel Route 66 from beginning to end.

Where would I go?
I would leave the sons at home and take DH back to Grand Cayman for as long as possible.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my beautiful province.

I would book a Hawaiian cruise with Norwegian and go have a blast! The cruise takes you to the main islands, and the excursions offered are awesome.

I mentioned it on another thread but there's a little island off of Nicaragua called Little Corn - no roads, little huts on the beach, cheap food, good diving - you could spend a week with the family and still have money left over.
