So I got the tickets. They are for the college world series championship game. The more expensive hotel is in Omaha within 10 minutes of the park.
The 2nd hotel is in Lincoln and a straight shot up I-80 for about 50 min. The exit is about 5 minutes from the ball park.
We will be driving as it takes about 6.5 hours to drive from our town.
Ds has always wanted to go. This year, the championship falls on his birthday.

It's his birthday and it's going to be hectic enough getting around the park ... splurge on the expensive hotel!

I went to college in Omaha and have experienced the CWS, go for the more expensive hotel. You are not going to want to make that drive at the end of the day. Parking is also a nightmare.

If money isn't an issue, I would get the closer hotel. But if you are on a budget, don't feel bad getting the farther away one. That way you may have extra money for souvenirs! Have fun!

That sounds like lots of fun! I think that you may be able to get more of the atmosphere and relax more if you stay close to the event. Games sometimes run long, and that might affect your desire to have a one hour drive.

I grew up in Omaha and went to college in Lincoln. You want the hotel in Omaha. Actually, there are so many hotels in Omaha, I am surprised that Lincoln is a choice. It is crazy, crazy parking during the college world series. And the traffic on the interstate to Omaha and through Omaha will be awful. Have you been to the Omaha Zoo? It is ranked as the 1st or 2nd zoo in the US. It is very close to the series' ball park. If you haven't been, you should try to get there. Your kids would love it.

Most of the hotels in Omaha are already booked. I booked both with free cancellation and will cancel one as the trip gets closer. I wonder if people do that for the games and then if their teams don't make it, cancel. I'll check every other week. Since you grew up in Omaha, is there anything else to do other than the zoo? If the series only goes the two games, we'll have one full day to do something. What about in Lincoln? We could go there after the game for the last two nights?

Council Bluffs, IA would be a lot closer to the stadium than Lincoln and cheaper than in downtown Omaha. Or you could go right down 75 to my hometown of Bellevue and stay there. Still a lot closer than Lincoln.
Definitely go to the zoo, and take the boys to the Air and Space museum. There's nothing to do in Lincoln at all.

my hometown of Bellevue and stay there is that in nebraska or iowa? Nebraska. There's a holiday inn express at 75 and Cornhusker Rd. You can wave hi to my high school.

Stay in Omaha or Council Bluffs. I'd consider Gretna also, but Lincoln would be PITA after the game.

A large number of hotel rooms are probably block booked by the College World Series organization. When they know who is in the world series, each team will be allocated a certain number of rooms at negotiated rates. There should be a date that unbooked rooms are given back to the hotels to make available to anyone. If you talk to someone at one of the local hotels they will usually let you know the date the rooms are released and/or if there is likely to be any available.
