I am sitting outside (Michigan in the 70's, yeah!) trying to plan some of our summer camping trips and after going back to a post that was posted about this time last year, I thought I'd ask about this summers camping plans. Our week long camping trip will be to the upper peninsula of Michigan. I really want to plan a couple of 2-4 day trips to Canada this year. We are about 25 minutes from Windsor so if anyone has any recommendations, please share! Where are you going?

We're doing our annual trip to Grand Teton NP and also heading into Yellowstone for 4 nights as well. It's nice living so close to both parks! We're also going to a state park about an hour from here over Memorial Day weekend and hoping for good weather. Some years it's nice and warm and some years it's rainy. And one year it snowed! In early August we're going up to Bear Lake on the Utah/Idaho border for Raspberry Days weekend and we'll camp up there. That's all we have planned so far. We're moving at the end of June/early July so we may be busy doing house stuff this summer and might now have the time to fit in many more trips.

Hi Jane! We're just moving about 25 minutes away to our old house. It was bigger than DH and I needed (we're empty-nesters) and it was 52 miles from work, so we bought a new, smaller house closer to my job about 2 1/2 years ago. We bought our old house at the height of the real estate market and even today it's not worth what we bought it for. So we decided to turn it into a rental for a few years, then see how the market was doing. Our renters' lease is up in June and we decided to move back into that house and sell our current house. DH hates being a landlord and while our old house hasn't appreciated much in the past few years, the value of our new house has increased by about 25%. So we're selling that house and taking the proceeds and putting them into updating the old house.

It's looking like a short trip to the UP ending with a stay at mil's lake house and then maybe another 4 day weekend on Lake Michigan. DH and I will likely do a weekend near traverse city.
At 15 and 14, the boys aren't as interested in camping as they used to be. We'll be doing day trips to Michigan adventure and Craig cruisers. Maybe an evening at a nearby bowling alley/ family entertainment place.

You never know what the weather will be like there. Cloudy days that don't seem warm can be very deceptive and that is the WORST place to get a sunburn because of the elevation. You've probably been there before, but I wasn't sure. Our family does 1/2 assed camping. There are a couple of buildings to sleep in and some people have trailers. Not exactly "glamping" or roughing it! I'll probably visit for the day at a place near Lava Hot Springs, Idaho but not stay overnight.

Most of our trips will just be out to a local lake this summer.
We went on an awesome 12 day trip last August to Colorado, Yellowstone and Montana. It was amazing! It was our first long road trip in the RV too.
We stayed in nice RV parks / campgrounds at each big destination and several Walmarts on our drive days. :-)
It was a great, but expensive trip. So this year, we'll stick close to home, but it will still be awesome! Can't wait.

We camp on the Sierra mountains every summer for a week. We stay at a camp ground just outside of Mammoth, CA for our base camp and every year we choose a different set of trails to hike during our week stay. I like the campground we stay at because there are clean bathrooms and running water. There are no showers, but there are private sinks you can do a sponge bath at.
My husband likes to hike and I like to fish so we compromise by hiking trails that eventually lead to lakes or rivers I can I fish in. We usually do a one or two overnight hike with our small two person tent and then spend the rest of the trip in our larger 4 person tent.

We're going to our usual campsite near Brevard NC and hiking Art Loeb the first weekend of June. We're going with 2 or three other families, it's the trip we always take as soon as school gets out.
I'd like to plan another trip for the summer, but DH's restaurant is really busy on weekends and I'm starting a new job in May so my schedule is at the mercy of my preceptor. So I don't know if we're going to be able to plan a second trip.
I'd love to do a road trip to the Grand Canyon one summer.

Not going this year but Devil's Lake state park in Baraboo WI has always been a favorite for us. It's a 15 minute drive from Wisconsin Dells so you can have a nice mix of out doorsy activities and more touristy stuff without spending too much time on the road.

We are road tripping from central Florida to Las Vegas this summer, going North when we leave New orleans to Arkansas, picking up route 66 in Tulsa and heading west. Coming back home a more Southern route through San Antonio.
Camping in Louisiana (not sure where yet on some of these nights), Eureka Springs, somewhere in Texas, 3 days at Grand Canyon Village, Camp Verde Arizona, Roswell NM, and again in Texas. In between we have 3 nights in Vegas and some nights in hotels thrown in there so we aren't camping the whole trip.
We did Florida to Niagara Falls and a few hours farther into Canada last year.

We just spent one week in Bodega Bay during spring break. In June, we'll head to the Sierra Nevada's for a week. Come home for two weeks, then in July up to Oregon for three weeks. We always stay on the coast in Oregon.

Seriously, this is the only way any more camping will be happening for this girl. Though I'm willing to vrbo a place instead of buying one. But lordy, I hate camping. I don't know when that happened, I grew up in SE Idaho, camping in the same places as scraphappy0501 is heading this summer. The Tetons and Yellowstone were my backyard. We camped all the time, as in nearly every weekend. But when I had to be the one to do all the adulting around the site, it lost its sparkle. Each year it got worse, and last year I put my foot down and refused to go. The family was super cranky about it, but I just don't enjoy it. I need a shower and a toilet and a mattress at a minimum.

We've visited Watkins Glen before, but just for a day. I'm looking forward to camping there and getting on the Gorge Trail before the crowds. We love that area - so pretty!

We tent camp and backpack and this is what we have planned so far:
- Three day weekend at Watkins Glen SP in the Finger Lakes in Western NY - Staying in a campground in the Catskills for my husband's ultramarathon in June - Camping on an island in Lake George (Adirondacks in NY) later this summer - friend who has a boat organizes the trip. We joined them last year and loved it
And this is the big one ... we're spending two weeks trekking in Peru. We normally backpack on our own, but for a variety of reasons (including it's my 40th birthday this year), we've booked a guide and crew so while we'll be camping in the wilderness for an extended time, it will be "luxurious" to us because we have a cook and pack animals to carry gear. Absolutely can't wait!

This is the trip I really want to do but the opposite...CA to FL southern route and then FL back home in Northern CA the northern route (going up the East Coast to make a big loop back home) in our travel trailer. How long are you guys taking to do this? While day dreaming with my husband, I think we would need at least a month to enjoy what we want along the way and that would probably be pushing it. But oh man, what a trip to plan! Right now we have scheduled a trip (glamping in our travel trailer) to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods/Crescent City area in Northern CA and then we'll head over to Medford, OR area to visit Crater Lake before coming home. In August we are taking the kiddo to college out of state and thinking about taking the travel trailer and coming home through Bend, OR so we can see the sites around there. I'll need to drown my sorrows of the kiddo being gone and I heard there are some great breweries in the area. Plus we've never been to that area and would love to see it.

We camped all the time, as in nearly every weekend. But when I had to be the one to do all the adulting around the site, it lost its sparkle. I'm near the same area. I now have a kid with special needs who sleeps in a recliner, so no overnights for me. My biggest thing about camping is I already live in the middle of nowhere. Why travel more to be farther the middle of nowhere and pack *everything*? If it wasn't so damn boring where I live, I might enjoy camping more. I guess instead of staring at my neighbor's house I can stare at trees.

That was me!! Camping was a big NOPE. We bought a travel trailer end of last summer and I cannot wait for "camping" trips now! My requirements were a decent sized bathroom (I don't want to have to sit on a toilet to get ready) and shower with elbow room, along with a comfy bed. I got all three and now I travel with my own toilet in tow. Not really camping, but I don't care. We even take the espresso maker! It was a bit overwhelming at first learning the ropes, but I'm enjoying it way more than I ever thought I would. On our trips home we are already planning our next outing.

Hopefully no rope cutting on this trip, lol). No Machu Picchu or the Sacred Valley - but we're expecting to go back at some point (my husband is not very interested in Machu Picchu and insists it is something we can be wheeled to in a wheel chair, so we're saving it, ha ha).

we went to machu picchu a couple of years ago. my dh uses a cane and my knees are creaky. it is not a great place for people with walking issues...go while you can. the bus/train'/bus ride is ok. but to really see the site you have to climb up and down very steep stone steps. and the altitude in cusco is tough to deal with..you are at 13,000. go in the rainy season..it is so amazing.
