Seems like every time I make a little progress financially something happens and I wind up right back at square one.
Last year it was a bunch of car repairs, once I recuperated from that I needed to buy a new washer and dryer. I'm still paying that off and will be for a while.
Then yesterday I was at a photo shoot and saw little bugs crawling in my camera. Luckily they don't show up in the pictures but now I'll have to send my camera in for service. I'm sure that'll eat all the profit I made at the shoot. Ugh.
I'm grateful that I have been able to handle all of these things without it impacting my life (just my savings) but I'm feeling so down this morning because I've been trying so hard to save and it seems like the second I deposit money I'm turning around and withdrawing it.
Anyone else feel like they just can't get ahead?

I know the feeling! We've had so many car issues the past year, plus our taxes are nearly double what they were last year, due to DDs being out of college and some other things. Plus we have DD#2's wedding in a month. And I haven't been able to get a job to help out. I do a ton of work at home for our business, but it doesn't bring in any income from another source. Even if I could get a job to bring in money to help pay taxes, I'd be thankful.

I totally understand. I feel this way all the time. Hopefully the bug fix is simple and doesn't eat up too much of your profit. And I hope you get some good spring sessions scheduled soon too.

I guess you could look at it the other way- You are fortunate that every time an unexpected expense comes up, you have just received the money to take care of it.
Still, more coming in than going out is always better!

I feel like that lately too. We bought a house almost a year ago and it seems like we've had one thing after another. I want new living room furniture but I thought about it and thought about it and just decided no for now. I don't want another expense right now.

I know the feeling too. We were hit in December with very big, unexpected dental and car repair bills. I lost my job last month but am starting to work again. Still, it never seems to be enough. D
DS is getting his license next month and DD is coming home permanently from college so we need to figure out the car situation with me working more.

It is like that for us also. DH works full time and I work PRN. My job pays more than DH's but I am getting called off work all the time due to low census. We want to update our home so we can move to Florida. But it is one unexpected expense after another. Vehicles need repaired, septic tank needs pumped, doctor bills, etc. It wouldn't be so bad if I could just work more hours.
I just keep praying and try to remember that it is in God's hands and He will take care of our needs.

I went many years where these things would have just thrown me into massive credit card debt. I'm really glad that, for the most part, I've been able to handle these things as they pop up. It would just be nice to catch a break for once!

I sure know the feeling.
Last month I put together a budget that would have us pretty debt free in about 11 months.
Then, we took a financial hit to the tune of $5000.00.
Back to the drawing board.

A lot! Preaching to the choir.
I have set saving goals, once we get to a certain amount I try to cut back so we don't go under that amount. It is hard!

I feel your pain! DH has been unemployed since last August and it is getting tougher by the day. The washing machine also died and had to be replaced. I have car servicing that needs doing and the little dog is having teeth & gum issues so really needs to have them cleaned. One more semester of university to pay for DD (which is already safely tucked away) and then at least that bit is over. If DH ever gets a job it probably won't be at pay comparable to what he did make so making all of this up down the road is going to be a long uphill battle.
One.day.at.a.time. and breathe.

Know exactly where you are coming from - been there many times. Right now we are going through some major plumbing problems plus we need to get some computer help (old computer to new computer) and it is time for the Pepper-dog's SENIOR annual visit. Yes, it is ALWAYS something in our household. Tried of seeing the checking account balance go down instead of up - but at least we are getting a tax refund this year...didn't see that coming - thank heaves for our accountant.

I know how you feel! I swore that every time I had a decent savings balance, I had surprise issues that ate it all. I joked that I am going to open a savings account under an assumed name so my belongings don't know the balance

Where did the bugs come from?
Is there anyway you can fix it yourself? Like leave it in a hot car for a day or two then blow out the insides with canned air or electronics vacuum?
I'm sorry. I hope things go better for you going forward.

You are fortunate that every time an unexpected expense comes up, you have just received the money to take care of it. Every time I tell my mother about some sort of expense that's popped up (new roof, replacing washer & dryer, etc), that's exactly what she says. "Isn't it nice that you have the money for it?" Well... yes, it is. But it still sucks. Maybe this is your run of bad luck with stuff and it will be followed by a run of fabulous luck! I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Story of my life, there are repairs on our house that we need to do. At the same time, we have been planning for a few years to upgrade the kitchen since we have to rip out the entire floor, the cabinets are original from 1960. Every year, we get hit with a big expense and it sucks. This year, I budgeted planned everything out to the penny. Well our health insurance coverage changed, even though I spend $1200 a month on insurance through my employer - we have been hit with about $5000 in medical bills and it's only April. I want to cry - on top of that we need car repairs.

It does feel that way at times. With the boys becoming teenagers, it means driver's training, insurance and another car. It's an expense we're trying to plan for. The ex is supposed to pay for half of driver's ed along with half of band expenses but we have to front it all first. Right now, the ex is telling me he had to sell his truck in order to pay his share of the boys' expenses. Well, asshole, maybe you should've sold that truck first before buying another truck so you wouldn't be in this spot.
Plus the ex won't pay for insurance and refuses to put either boy on his insurance right now. I'm hoping he changes his tune but I'm not counting on it.
Eta hit enter too soon.
We have things we want to do to the house. We have a car that needs to be replaced. I'm just hoping nothing major breaks. Every time I think we got it, a new expense pops up. At least the boys' were known and I'm trying to squirrel away money to help with the initial increase.

I hope things go better for you going forward. Thanks. I'm not sure where they came from. I initially thought they were in the lens I was using which I just bought used and have only had for a couple of weeks. But I switched out lenses and I could still see them crawling around! I had the camera with me messing with my horses about a month ago other than that it's just been sitting in the bag when I haven't had shoots. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving it in a hot car (electronics and extreme heat don't play nicely together) and if I spray some canned air in there chances are I will do something horrific to my sensor. I have only had the camera for about a year and since it makes me money I will just suck it up and send it in for service. Then at least I will know that it was taken care of properly and hopefully I won't forever doubt it's competence like I would if I DIY'd it.

Also great idea on the bag. I got the bag last month at the same time I got my lens, I wonder if the bag brought the bugs?

Oh I hope they aren't bedbugs that came with either purchase. Oh my I hate bugs and the thought of bed bugs sends me over the edge. And bugs in the camera definitely crosses the line! Good luck
