I have been looking for a pair of shoes to walk around Europe for 2 solid weeks in. I don't want to spend a fortune, around $75. As for style, I am a stylish person but I don't give a damn if I look like a tourist. I have really tight hamstrings and easily get lower back pain. I had major knee surgery a year ago and while my knee is okay, I developed problems with my pierformis muscle recently and have been dealing with pain from that. Okay, now you know my backstory....
I have tried on so many shoes and some have memory foam and while they are comfortable, people have said that the foam doesn't last more than a few weeks. Anyone have any experience with that?
I have custom orthotics that I can swap out in any shoe but I am looking for a lightweight, comfortable shoe that provides a good amount of cushion. Any recommendations? It has to be something with laces.

I bought 2 pairs of Skechers loafers with memory foam last fall and they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. They are still going strong. I just bought the sandals version and walked around all day on Saturday and they were awesome. I don't know about athletic shoes but at least if you go with the Skechers brand, I think they are fantastic.

Thanks for the positive review!

Skechers! I did 3 weeks of tromping around Europe in mine. I had ones that were black suede and not really athletic shoe looking, I saw similar everywhere we went on women of all ages and walks of life.

I bought a pair of their memory foam insole trainers (athletic shoes in the US) about a year ago and wear them regularly, including walking around London etc., and they are really comfortable and I've had absolutely no problems with the memory foam lasting. Well worth the cost imo.

I have Sketchers Go Walks (not lace up but do have memory foam) and they've lasted me over a year with daily wear! The soles actually wore out first! LOVE my Sketchers! So comfy to walk around in.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and ordered them. It shouldn't be this hard to find a pair of comfy shoes

Totally agree on the Sketchers! My first pair has worn out and my feet are screaming for me to go shoe shopping

I do event marketing work, which includes really long days outside on my feet (12+ hours a day typically, walking many miles around NASCAR tracks a lot). I also wear Sketchers Go Walk a lot, and they are very comfortable. I have a couple pair that I rotate (so I'm not wearing the same pair every day). I usually have to replace them after about 6 months, but that's just b/c of the amount of use they get. I think they would be great for a trip. They don't offer a lot of ankle support (at least the styles I wear), so if you need that, you may want to look for more of a tennis shoe style than the slip on.

I have several pair of Skechers (go walk and the some others with memory foam as well) and they are so comfy. Definitely my favorite shoes ever.
Last summer I bought my first pair and they were the go walk 3. Wore them all of the time. For fall I got a pair of loafers that have fur inside as well as some that are like low boots that are go walk. I also have go walks that are tennis shoe style and wear them for working out.

Same here - mine are a few years old, but I only wear them for my walk breaks at work. They have held up very nicely!

Before I even read anyone's reply, I was thinking Skechers! I live in trainers, and the most comfortable ones are definitely the Skechers Go Walk with memory foam. I love them and rarely wear other brands these days.

My friend and her DH wear Sketchers with the memory foam and swear by them. Tried to get a pair for myself but the don't make them in wide sizes.

I knew people would be posted raves about the sketchers ones but I just don't like them. In fact just Saturday I returned a pair of the Sketchers gowalk 3 shoes the other day because while they felt ok at first when I wore them a couple hours they made my feet and knees ache..
I wish I could find a pair of shoes I love for work, I was hoping that those sketchers would be good but nope i hated them..I am a big fan of Asics, especially the Asics Gel figure thats what I'll wind up with I just hate shoe shopping and didn't have time to shop any when I made that return..

Skechers Go Walks! I bought my first pair in Germany two years ago, when I was walking 6 hours a day sightseeing and my feet were killing me. They saved the trip. Now I have a job that sometimes has me on my feet 40-50 hours a week and I have many pairs of Go Walks. Not any Skechers will do, I need the cushy-ness of the Go Walks.

Another vote for Skechers, but not just any pair. I have 2 pairs of slip-ons and while I do find them comfortable for out and about use, I could never recommend them for heavy duty walking. However, I can highly recommend this pair: Sketchers Go Walk 3 lace up style linkI wore them in Disney World the other week and walked an average of 10 miles a day with a total of over 53 miles walked. I think they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.
