We own an auto glass shop and I have to deal with rude assholes almost every day. Today's call came from a guy asking for a quote for us to install HIS glass. I answered him politely and then nothing. I look down and he'd hung up on me! No "thank you" or "no thanks" or "go to hell" or anything! I've gotten this a lot lately so I decided to call him back. Of course he didn't answer so I left a sugary sweet message saying how "gosh, we must have got disconnected because you were just gone without saying good bye or thanks or anything."
The other day I had a man call me up wanting to know if we had clips for a door glass. You could tell he did NOT want to talk to a woman, but the thing is, my husband can get the phone and will probably had it back to me anyway (boy does that make guys mad!) I explained to him how they sell the doors and why we don't carry the clips and same thing, he didn't say thanks or anything, just was gone. I almost called him back too.
Funny, all these people seem to be from the same white trash town. Whenever we get a call from there only about 50% of the cash customers actually happen (after they make an appointment!)
What's so hard about just saying "ok thanks"?

I think it is rude. What does your husband think? Does he get these hang ups too (if he answers)? I guess I am on the opposite side of the spectrum, so it is hard for me to see why someone would do that. Our phone number is one digit off a moving company in town. We get calls from people all of the time (over 20 years) asking our prices or leaving a message. If we get a message, I will call the person back and tell them they had the wrong number. I think there needs to be a lot more kindness in the world.

That would make me so frustrated.
I love that you called and left a message for the guy who just hung up on you. I'm sure you sent him a message loud and clear. Jerk.

They aren't just rude on the phone plenty are rude in person too, I work as a cashier in a grocery store and it boggles my mind sometimes how people act. I also often work the gas station at the store and people are even worse out there, I really think a lot of them think they are better than us cashiers(or gas station attendants).

Many years ago I had a retail store in town. I was very young for having my own business (early 20's). I got treated very poorly all the time until the found out I owned the place!

This is true even in an upscale specialty store like I had. People would come in and talk down to me like I was a 'lowly cashier' and I owned the store! Rude, rude, rude. For that reason, I give everyone I encounter in retail settings complete respect regardless of what position they hold. There is no reason to be rude to someone just because of the job they happen to do.

Hardly anyone owns landlines anymore. Isn't it possible you were disconnected? Why assume the worst? Honestly, if I got that message I'd find another place. I think you should have left it at gosh, we must have got disconnected and told him the quote one more time.

I think calling someone back specifically to reprimand them - even if you're doing it in a passive-aggressive way and not overtly - is rude. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I can't believe you called him back. Who cares if he hung up? You really take it that personally? Yes, he's rude, roll your eyes and move on with the rest of your day.

If you hung up on me I would want you to find another place to shop....if he got disconnected, he would have called back. That's what normal people do.
