We had one growing up but there was a sun/moon (am/pm) dial on it and it didn't chime between 8 PM and 8 AM. I think my sister still has it.

My Dad has one that he just loves. It's been moved several times and he's always so careful with it. I know it can chime every 15 minutes, but they have set it to every hour. I guess you just get used to it because I hardly notice it when I visit.

Totally love them and we would have one if we had the space. DH's aunt left him an inheritance and we bought a wall mounted pendulum clock that we call Flo after Auntie Florence! It's beautiful but we listened to a few chimes before deciding on one we liked. I love hearing it tick although I'm not often aware of it and I love hearing it chime too. We have it set so it stops chiming at 10 pm and restarts at 8 am. It only needs winding once a week.
We bought ourselves a chiming mantle clock for our silver wedding and I love that too. I just love clocks but the chiming ones have soul imho.

I like them. And I also find the ticking and chiming to be a soothing noise.

We have one and love it. It was an anniversary present. It suits the traditional decor of our home. My dad enjoyed collecting clocks. So now they remind me of him. I recently received a very nice wall clock as a 25th anniversary gift from my employer.

I love mine and usually don't hear the chimes day or night because I'm so used of them

I grew up in a home with a grandfather clock and other chiming clocks and loved it. My dad died a few years ago and I inherited some of the clocks. My husband and kids didn't care for all of the ticking sounds and chiming, so they just sit and look pretty. Lol!

Absolutely NOT!
Many years ago when I was about 18, a whole group of us stayed over at a friend's house. His parents had about 8 grandfather clocks of various sizes in their lounge room, where we all bunked in for the night. I am still suffering from the traumatising flashbacks of those damn clocks chiming all night!

Nay for me. In a large, appropriate home as long as you can turn the chimes off fine. But that's not my life

In the right space they look nice. I have no interest in owning one. I will say anything is better than the wall clock my in-laws have that has a different bird sound every hour.

I love them. They remind me of my grandparents. Their house was an old farm house and when it was quiet all you heard was the ticking of the clock. It was a comforting sound. My parents had a wall clock that chimed. They haven't used it in years but when it is working the chime just reminds me of childhood.

I love the look of them, and if I had the room and could afford one, I would say YAY!

I'm going to go with nay. They are too clunky and old school looking for me.

Depends on your home. They look fine in an older property but stand out like a sore thumb in a modern home.

My dad got one as a retirement gift. So did his wife. We got the extra one and I love it. Reminds me of him every day and it never chimes. Turned that off an hour into owning it.

if it were a family item that had "history", i would put one in my home. i would never go out of my way to source one out and purchase it.

I inherited a Grandfathers clock that my grandfather built. We put it in our entryway but we decided not to set it up to chime and ding.

I have one and love it! My DH made it. After a while you get used to the chimes and now I never pay attention to the sound.

NAY! I absolutely hate the ticking and the chiming. My MIL has not only the GF clock, she has a second chiming/musical clock in her kitchen. I hate it day or night.
My nightmare...years ago they brought us a cuckoo clock from Germany. We were still newlyweds, so I really had to tolerate it for DH's sake. I was so happy when it broke!
