the other week my daughter was collecting money for her Girl Scout cookies and somebody gave her two dollar bills. I thought that was funny. I wonder if they had recently been to the strip club? * nudge nudge* Ha - I hope not! It was a young girl who's her counselor at an after school program, lol.

I don't think anybody is expecting having women on currency to magically change anything, but I still think it's pretty cool. I like it. If that makes me a failed woman with delusions about empowerment, then so be it. I think it makes you a woman with your own opinion on things, as you should be. As we all should be. And we should all be able to share and explain those opinions without the need to defend those opinions and without being labeled by others based on them.

I never said they were dependent upon.. but they do notice the lack of women on things like money. Young girls do use money... because most don't have mobile devices until they are older. Certainly they know what money looks like and who is on the bills. They also notice that there is not a woman President, and that politicians are mainly men, and that the pictures in their history books are mainly of men!! What is your beef with having women recognized? I don't have a beef recognizing accomplished women. I think Harriet Tubman and others are worthy of recognition, but I feel much like freecharlie does - it is kind of silly and inconsequential to think that being pictured on currency is going to inspire a generation of women. I read that the new bill won't even be in circulation until 2030. As I look around at all the problems or issues facing young women these days, who is on the $20 bill is at the bottom of the list. It's not going to have any real or meaningful impact in the lives of growing girls. And I differ in your thought process, because every girl over the age of 12 I know has a smart phone. Most of them have had it since elementary school. Technology is going to make currency largely obsolete one day and it might even happen before 2030. Think about it - how many people used to write checks as their way of payment? How many do it now? And no matter our progressive thoughts and politics of this day, we can't change history. The founders of this great nation were men. In addition to the brave men and women who have fought and died to preserve the freedoms we hold dear, our forefathers also sacrificed greatly to form our society. IMO, it is of no use to go back and apply today's thought processes to the 1600 and 1700's. If you really believe that the founders of this nation were only men. Then you prove the point that we need women's contributions to be honored and shared. Your view of the founders of this country is exactly why we need to have women on our money. From the Washington Post ... The woman who will be the face of the new $20 bill, Harriet Tubman, was a daring and principled fighter. Her dramatic career included defying slaveowners, smuggling dozens of slaves to freedom as part of the Underground Railroad, leading raids in the Civil War, and fighting for women's right to vote -- all of which she accomplished with a disability.www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/04/21/the-audacious-career-of-harriet-tubman-the-new-face-of-the-20-bill/
