I'm excited! I love that she'll be on a bill that everyone uses often. Everytime someone gets money from an ATM, she'll be there.
I know there's been some push back, but I think it's about time and she's the perfect choice.

Meh...as long as the bill can be spent for what I want to buy, I don't care whose picture is on it.

People on FB are saying the rudest things. And it's like no-one had opened a history book ever.

Glad they decided to keep Hamilton!

Jackson should have been removed long ago.

Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted today about how neat it was for him to be able to ask for people's Tubmans in fundraising today, and you know what? It was.

She is the first woman I ever admired. I remember being a little girl and wanting to be just like her - brave and strong. I think it's so great that she was chosen!

I admit to being a little wierded out by a change to our currency. But, if we are going to change it I think she is an admirable person to choose. And I'm glad they put her on one of the most used bills instead of one few every see like a thousand dollar bill. eta: FTR, I didn't approve of the change to the quarters either but we seemed to have survived that!

Very cool. I guess I won't say I visited Andrew Jackson's home when I was young and so impressed by it. I lived down the street from it.. LOL...

ETA: now I see they'll be on the back of the $10. Kind of disgusting to have him still on the bill while she's on the front

I couldn't care less. I only remember who is on the bills when it comes up, otherwise I call them by their denomination.
I do think this was a collosal waste of time, money, and other resources and wonder what was put on the back burner.

It's a fine choice, although I was hoping for Susan B. Anthony.

I do think this was a collosal waste of time, money, and other resources and wonder what was put on the back burner. You know me, I'm all for unnecessary government spending. But I think she was a very extraordinary woman and I'm glad to see her memorialized in this way plus, I strongly suspect they will take this major redo as an opportunity to try to further harden the bill against counterfeiting. Don't forget the $20 bill is the most commonly encountered counterfeited bill. At least I sure hope they don't waste this opportunity. It is, after all, the Treasury's job to help protect the value of our money. Or something like that.
I saw one pundit suggest they should have made a new denomination with Tubman's likeness instead of changing it out. Perhaps a $25 bill. I thought that was a good idea. We do a lot of things in $25 increments. Would you have liked that better?

We do a lot of things in $25 increments. Would you have liked that better? It isn't that I dislike her or even that I want Jackson to stay. It is that it doesn't affect my life in any way. If it was for the counterfeit issue, I would be okay with it, but since it was originally supposed to be the $10 and was changed for public opinion on a Broadway show, it irritates me that the treasury should be so easily swayed and pandering to the masses. I know some people are saying that since Harriet Tubman is African American they picked her so that they covered both women and AA. Could you imagine the issues with today's cashiers and a $25 bill?

I can't believe they are moving Jackson to the back. I was hoping they would have her on the front and then some scene from her history on the back. How disappointing it's Jackson.

How disappointing it's Jackson. they are, it is a march and five women. He will not be on the back That is not what I read. I think the five women will be on the back of the ten. The articles I read indicated Jackson will be retained in some way on the back of the twenty --will be on the back of a slave. I hope now those reports are wrong. Jackson owned and raped female slaves. He really was quite cruel. People sometimes defend him as being in his cultural context, but he really did some abhorrent things. His treatment of Native Americans was awful, as well. To put him on the back of a female slave is at the very least insensitive, although I would like to believe it is not intended as such. ETA. The article in the OPs link also indicates Jackson will go on the bavk of the twenty in a smaller form.

Interesting that your 20 is the most counterfeit. In Canada, the most counterfeit is the 5. Or at least it was, the new polymer bills may have changed that.

adding a new denomination is a headache from a cashier stand point. Drawers on cash registers are set for the denominations we have now. There isn't a good place to put the new bills except if you receive one you can put it under the drawer but that means it is out of sight so they aren't used in change making to keep them in circulation.
ATMS also aren't likely to be changed to accommodate dispensing a different bill than they do; they would need to be reprogrammed to dispense in multiples of 25. 25 has fewer options in amounts than 20 does. I'm not sure I like that.
So getting it into circulation is problematic. It is the reason the $2 never caught one beyond a novelty.

We had one... but it's been since convered to a 2 dollar coin. Which apparently may someday happen to the five. But weird that the 2 is a novelty in the States.
